When I first heard of Jackson's death, one of the first things I thought about was how it would affect news coverage of other world events. I remember thinking that Iran or North Korea could be nuked and we would only hear about it after details of how Jackson's doctor's car was towed were thoroughly discussed by the talking heads of CNN or Fox News.

Today I see on Fox News that someone finally noticed that the "economy and 2 wars (are) taking backseat to Jackson's death." Instead of just switching to something more news worthy, two commentators discussed in detail on how or why this was happening. I think they do not notice irony even when they are talking about it. :)

Posters at JREF are way to smart to discuss something as mundane as Michael Jackson's death. I guess everyone knows that death happens, and we can't bring him back. So move on. And we know that how he died does not quite rank up there with how servicemen have died for us in hostile regions of the world - and they do not hardly get their name mentioned (er, um, well, I guess at least Nancy Grace does that honor. But it is not even a full 15 minutes of fame.)
 
And Bitching about the media coverage of it is pointless. The media will do what sells papers or what get ratings. The only way to avoid that is for the Government to own and control the Media. And that, I propose , is a cure far,far,far, worse then the disease.

The amount of press MJ gets is ridiculous.....even dead, and thank god for that.....maybe, just maybe, his kids might get a closer-to-normal upbringing.

I find it worrisome that his death gets so much news coverage considering it was a suicide, which are known to cause copycat suicides. But what can one expect, it's the same media that keeps broadcasting footage from 9/11 and other disasters, despite all the traumatized people who suffer emotionally because of this.

And did anyone hear some of the eulogies this guy is getting? Magic Johnson claiming that MJ made him a better basketball player? WTF!!! Just when before his death, did Magic make any such claim?
