Itunes 11.1.4 update problem

The other morning I let Itunes update and it failed. I started getting Msvcr80.dll not found Errors. After about half a day of fiddling around I followed the recommendations here…

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerrormessage/a/msvcr80-dll-not-found-missing-error.htm

I was able to remove the apple programs and run the install as an administrator. Back up and jam’n out as usual.

Hmm.

I just went through this. It would not automatically install and suggested I install it manually (instructions would have been nice). I did that and got a message from the installer that it had been installed successfully.

When I get back to Firefox, I get a Windows message that "iTunes has not been installed successfully". Good thing I don't use it.

Standby for me to report any consequent problems.

Yeah that was the message I first got too, to try manually installing but that didn't do the trick. If you don't use Itunes yet have it installed I take that to mean perhaps someone else uses it?

It actually got installed as part of some CD-writer package to get singer/title details. If my Mac-using wife reports the problem, I would start to get worried. ;)

I'll just wait for the next update.

I have had a couple of attempts to update to this version. All failed. Will try to manually update it when I have time. Glad it is not just me.

I had similar problems with the update and also had to go through the steps in the article linked in the OP, or a similar one.

Looks like this update was kind of buggy.

I've also had problems with this update. in my case I lost the ability to sync and tether my iPhone via USB. Win 8.1 figured out it needed a driver for syncing all by itself, but USB tethering requires software from Apple and I haven't yet figured out how to get it.

I wish Apple would pay a lot more attention to the Windows version of iTunes. It has to be the crappiest thing they produce.

Hmm, haven't tried hooking up my Ipod yet, have to see how that goes.

I just rebooted and got the "Msvcr80.dll not found" error.

Once.

Everything seems OK otherwise.

Seems I'm OK as long as I don't use iTunes. :D

If you're trying to install the latest iTunes update, version 11.1.14, on a Windows computer, you may be in for a rocky ride. Customers have reported problems with corrupt Registry entries, MSVCR80.dll missing errors, nightly Genius update crashes, problems locating an attached iPhone, and much more.

Many -- but not all -- of those problems succumb when all Apple products are removed and reinstalled. Not just iTunes, mind you, but every program Apple has installed on your Windows computer. The screw-up is so common that Apple has a Knowledge Base article on the topic. It says:

In some rare instances, it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes. For most technical issues, reinstalling iTunes is an unnecessary and overused troubleshooting step. If you're directed to reinstall iTunes by AppleCare, an article, or an alert dialog, you can do so by following the steps in this article.

I know a few thousand people who would dispute the "rare instances" characterization, but never mind.

It happened to me...iTunes (Windows 8.1) could not detect iPod Touch when connected to USB. Uninstalled all Apple programs via Control Panel, downloaded iTunes and installed, problem solved.

Ah, good to know. Thanks for that :)

As per Babycondor, I uninstalled everything Apple and reinstalled iTunes from a fresh download. USB tethering is back :)
