Is Santorum Quitting?

Santorum has about as much chance of being nominated as I do. He has a solid core of "social issues" followers, but nothing else whatever so far as I can tell.
Question is, to whom do those social-issue types turn when he drops out? Romney, the not-quite-a-Christian? or Gingrich, the oft-divorced and morally-suspect...

Will Obama-hatred make them hold their noses and pick one or the other, or will they just sit on their hands in disgust?

Ahem:
I think you're right. While this was a stunning upset for Newt, he doesn't have the resources or the people in place to keep it going for the whole primary season. Even if Santorum drops out (which I suspect he will do after Florida) and throws his support to Gingrich, it's still not enough to keep up with Romney's money machine.

My bet is that they will continue to hammer Mitt about his tax returns, the one point where Romney has visibly stumbled. The problem is (for the GOP) that this plays right into the hands of the Democrats.

So far, the social-issue types don't seem to care about oft-divorced, open marriage, divorce-them-when-they're-sick Newt.

I still think ultimately the nomination will go to Romney, but Gingrich is going to make him hurt in the meantime.

The average of various polls this morning shows the following:

Gingrich 31.0%
Romney 27.3
Santorum 15.8
Paul 12.5
undecided (by implication) 13.4

If we add Santorum's support to Gingrich we get:

Gingrich 46.8%
Romney 27.3
Paul 12.5
undecided (by implication) 13.4

I think we can expect Gingrich to win in Florida. However, I suspect Romney will rebound once states outside the south start having their primaries.

ETA: In February, the following states have their primaries:

Nevada - 3 delegates
Maine - 3
Missouri - 3
North Mariana Islands - 3
Colorado - 3
Arizona - 29
Michigan - 30

Michigan and Arizona are the big ones here. I would think Romney wold win in Michigan, and Gingrich would take Arizona. So, going into Super Tuesday the two could be running neck and neck, with Ron Paul, the perennial campaigner, running a distant, and largely irrelevant, third.

Clearly they have to go to Obama. I mean, aren't Muslims strong on family values?

Santorum will not quit. He might get wiped out, or he may dribble out of the running, but he won't simply quit.

I think Santorum will likely hold out just long enough to make himself a serious contender for the VP nod.

Any chance that the Republicans can still pull a fast one and nominate someone that has not participated in the primaries yet?

This thread is a frothy mixture of speculation and absurdity.

I've decided to change my voter registration to Republican (from neo-Kaczynskiite -- I don't get called for jury duty) so I can vote in the Primary.

I'm voting Santorum.

Good morning!

I think that Presidental contender Rick Santorum will be dropped out of the Republican race before too long.

http://news.yahoo.com/tired-broke-santorum-heads-home-taxes-084655933.html

He is talking about how tired he is and how he just wants to go home this weekend and do his 2011 taxes as opposed to working in Florida in preparation for the Tuesday election.

All you have to do is ask if Santorum is quitting...

...and being a PA voter, my answer would be I sure as hell hope he is!

I've heard more than a few people toss out Mitch Daniels's and Chris Christie's names of late.
