Is it supposed to look like this?

I bought this container of Magician's wax at a local magic shop. The place has been around a long time, and the guy had to go in the back and literally blow dust off of it before selling it to me.

I have never bought it before, so I don't know what it is "supposed" to be like. This stuff is really pretty hard, and has a sort of a funky smell. Is it possible it's just really old? Or is it supposed to be like that?

Once warmed up a bit it works well enough for the intended purpose. I was also wondering if there was maybe something better I could use? Something that looks less like ear wax if you happen to spot it.

Hahaha... They sold you something. Ear wax? That's like best case scenario. That looks foul.

I bought this recently from Tannen's for $3 but you'll get nailed on postage if you don't have other needs and it has no smell at all.

That just looks like Beeswax to me, and unlike Magicians Wax, beeswax does have quite strong smell.

We used to use it the days before "pozidrive" screwdrivers hold a screw on the tip of a screwdriver when trying to get it into a difficult to access places

I may have just found the best alternate use for it. :)

No one is supposed to see it (except you). If it does the job, there's no reason to complain.

That said, I've never bought it - I just make my own.

I don't use wax for anything, but I've heard magicians say to just use dental wax because the stuff you buy from shops is obscenely overpriced.
