Is Hastert a murderer?

I don't know. I just don't know. He supports outlawing abortion. Abortion doctors have been murdered. So he does have a stake in this thing.

That's the level the Speaker of the House has stooped to in insinuating that George Soros is a drug dealer.

This is from Lloyd Grove's column in the NY Daily News, discussing what Hastert had to say on Fox News Sunday.
LOOSE-TONGUED SPEAKER? Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert - having already enraged some New Yorkers with his remarks about local office-holders' "unseemly scramble" for federal money after 9/11 - yesterday opened a second front. On "Fox News Sunday," the Illinois Republican insinuated that billionaire financier George Soros, who's funding an independent media campaign to dislodge President Bush, is getting his big bucks from shady sources. "You know, I don't know where George Soros gets his money. I don't know where - if it comes overseas or from drug groups or where it comes from," Hastert mused. An astonished Chris Wallace asked: "Excuse me?" The Speaker went on: "Well, that's what he's been for a number years - George Soros has been for legalizing drugs in this country. So, I mean, he's got a lot of ancillary interests out there." Wallace: "You think he may be getting money from the drug cartel?" Hastert: "I'm saying I don't know where groups - could be people who support this type of thing. I'm saying we don't know."

Hastert makes a huge mistake here, assuming that because Soros supports the legalization of drugs that he is being supported by the drug cartel.

Why would the drug cartel support the legalization of drugs? It would kill them!

Legalize drugs and the drug cartel is out of business as drugs are manufactured by legitimate businesses and the bottom drops out on the price. Why would the drug cartel support that?

Just shows how some people don't understand the economics of prohibition in the least.

News flash: William F. Buckley Jr. is in bed with the Columbian drug cartels, the Taliban, and is probably a crack dealer. I'll forward this info to Hastert post haste to help him in his campaign to rid this nation of the rampant, liberal pro-drug scourge.

Maybe this should be a different thread, but....

Is Hastert really that naive? I suspect not, I think he's hoping others are, however, and will swallow his simplistic, jingoistic rhetoric.

By this logic, the President and Vice President are in the pocket of the oil industry...oh, wait a sec....2+2=?

Personally, I suspect he actually believes it, at least for now. It wouldn't take much thought to realize the folly of it, but I really doubt he has put any thought into it. It's a lot easier to spout simplistic, jingoistic rhetoric that demonizes an opponent than to actually think through if it makes sense.

It's also interesting to point out that George Soros has more money than a loser like Hastert could make in a thousand lifetimes. So I hardly think he needs financial support from anyone.

I just heard Hastert on the radio from the Republican convention. His mercifully short speech was all about Kerry this and Kerry that and Kerry had his Boston tea party, only instead of tea, he would throw the taxpayers into the water. Is this guy on oxycontin or something? I don't know. Maybe he's a golem and has no brain. What I'm saying is that I don't know.

Hastert is just doing standard slur operation.

In the same sentence he says Soros supports Kerry and accuses Soros of being a drug dealer in a non-libelous way. It causes bad associations for Kerry. Kerry - drug dealer.

Its effect is equivalent to saying I know Kerry is a great father and would never beat his children. Kerry - child beater.

Even people who understand it is ridiculous may fall for it subconciously.

Yup. That Dennis Hastert, who's been called a murderer, but it's unproven, supports Bush for president.

While I have no first hand knowledge, I just heard that Dennis Hastert is a murderer. I think he needs to respond to that charge immediately, the longer he delays the more suspicious I get.

I just heard from a fairly reliable source that John Kerry beats his kids. But other than that, he is a great father.

This is what Josh Marshall says about it this afternoon.
...
I've talked to reporters who've asked Hastert this around the convention hall. And he's been aggressively restating the 'charge.' I'm told he even shoved his finger in the chest of one of them when repeating it.

Now Soros has written this letter to Hastert, asking him to put up or shut up, or, more specifically "either substantiate these claims -- which you canont do because they are false -- or publicly apologize for attempting to defame my character and damage my reputation."
...
That sounds like Soros would like to take legal action.

That would be a hoot. But if I was Soros, I wouldn't have even asked for an apology. I would have filed a suit for slander (or is it libel) immediatly. Bury that phony bastard in legal fees.
