So a couple of days ago some Jehovah Witnesses left some literature for me at my door when I wasn't home. I just now saw that one of them was on atheism and thought "this should be good."

Atheists On A Crusade

A new group of atheists has arisen in society. Called the "new atheists,"
they are not content to keep their views to themselves. Rather, they are on a crusade, "actively, angrily, passionately trying to persuade the religious from their view," wrote columnist Richard Bernstein.

Remember this was in something they just gave out to try and get people to convert.

I guess they're not content to keep their views to themselves either.

The best irony for me is that there's nothing in atheism that says you shouldn't shout about it as loudly as you can, whereas I'm sure Jesus said something about believers keeping their religion private. So they're not just hypocrites, they're unfaithful hypocrites.

Yeah, it starts to go off the rails with the fallacy about how intelligence is too complex to evolve naturally. The same tripe I've heard before.

You know I think I have a copy of Panda's thumb around my house somewhere....it was left by some Jehovah Witnesses too.

FSM my grandparents in law are JWs. I swear it's some kind of disease which compels them to send these toilet paper rags to someone they know is an atheist.

I suppose I should applaud their persistence in trying to save my soul from eternal damnation, but somehow it just feels like they're telling me that I'm evil.

Did atheists never hear about Sun Tzu?

"It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle."

How could someone miss, that lots of christian "heroes" aka saints including christ are celebrated because they went somewhere, tread on peoples nerve by proclaiming christ to be the messias, gods unending love, which makes him forgive any sin and put those unrepentful to eternal damnation and so on and got murdered by somebody?

Thats pretty much, what Jehovas Witnesses do, except the "get murdered" part.
And the command to private about religion, was about prayers and other things, that can be done privately without great attention. Obviously preaching to the disbelievers cannot be done without them noticing it.

I managed to find some Jehova's Witness advent calendars this xmas. Every time a door is opened, a voice shouts 'Just f-off, we're Catholic'.

Matthew 6:5-6

And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father in secret shall reward thee openly.
However, Paul also said this - 1 Timothy 2:8

I will therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands.
There's also a bit where Christians are commanded to make converts of all nations. According to standard Christian theology, the unconverted go to Hell, and no good Christian wants that for anybody except the unrepentant wicked. So it's a moral duty to bring others to Christ, and there are very few denominations that do not practice proselytisation to some degree.

You'd just think that the words of Jesus would outrank those of some dude adding his own tuppence worth later. Of course, the downside to that approach is that Christians would have to keep their big yaps shut and try to convert people by example. That would never work.

I used to work with a JW and during a chat about the crusades he said it was terrible these people forcing their religion onto other people, he also claimed Evolution was just a theory that no one really believed in any more, and that cattle were never wild they were put on earth domesticated for man's use, and that animals like lions etc. were there to remove the unneeded, sick, and dead domesticated animals. I miss those conversations always brightened my day.

I think you missed the point: It may be part of the JW's calling to try hard to spread their gospel, but then it is rather silly of them complaining if others, including atheists, do exactly the same.
