After to have visited Germany and Italy where he received a warm welcome by Schröder and Berlusconi, the new President ad interim of Iraq Mr Ghazi al Yawar was 'invited' do not put his feet in France!
The new Iraqi President had to adress the European Parliament in Strasbourg but the French authorities have refused the authorization. This it's the biggest evidence that France was a strong friend of Saddam Hussein.
France every day is going down, they are almost arrived at the ◊◊◊◊ they deserve.

I hadn't heard that. That is so bizarre. Did they say why?

Maybe they just fear terrorist attacks. We all know the French are a bunch of scaredy-cats anyway.

I can't find anything on this. So Far I have checked the bbc and google news. What is your source?

"To the Yawar, cancelled visit: disliked in France "
Nothing travel to Strasburgo for the president iracheno. Given the situation of the kidnapped ones, its presence is "little opportune"

STRASBURGO - The president iracheno Ghazi Yawar has cancelled an encounter with the parliamentarians of the Ue in the French city of Strasburgo, a week after that Paris has preferred to refuse its visit. Official sources communicate.

The DECISION - the reasons for the unexpected cancellation of the visit of Yawar to fixed Strasburgo for Wednesday are not known. The decision but is continuation to that one of Franceto refuse the visit of the president iracheno because of the delicate situation for the rapimento of two French journalists Christian Chesnot and Georges Malbrunot at the hands of the Army Muslim in Iraq, says given a degree to to us French. Its presence in France would have been thought therefore "little opportune" not being itself still resolved the vicissitude of the two journalists. To Paris there would be who suspects that the attitude of the government iracheno has in some contributed way to hinder the release of the two French.

FRANCE NOT TAKEN PART E' - "the French government is not taken part (on the visit of Strasburgo)", has said one megaphone of the president of the European Parliament Josep Borrell. Yawar would have had to meet the leaders of the European Parliament and the commission Foreign policies of Strasburgo, but it was not sure that a president to interim could have addressed to the entire assembly being only. The minister to the Foreign countries French Michel Barnier has said to journalists to the encounter of the ministers of the European Foreign countries that Paris "does not have objections neither reservoirs on the visit of Yawar to the European Parliament". Borrell has expressed disappointment for the decision of Yawar not to go to Strasburgo, and has said that it would have been an occasion for "the beginning of political relations with the Iraq, a Country with which the Ue has not never had relationships", it has explained in an official notice. Yawar will be to Brussels tuesday where the encounter with the ambassadors of the NATO and the European responsible for foreign Politics Javier Solana is programmed.

They appear not to want him there because it would endanger some journalist hostages.

This is dumb, in that it makes it clear that kidnapping journalists is an effective tactic, and therefore endangers more journalists, but it doesn't appear to be because France 'hates' the Iraqi leader, or that they were friends of Saddam Hussein.

As i said, we also have 2 Italians in the hands of the terrorists in Iraq.. but surely we don't give the terrorists the feeling they can control us. The new Iraqi president was very welcome to Rome. ;)

Ah found why. Your orignal claims are incorrect. France had nothing to do with the canceling of the Strasbourg thing.

Incerdently what makes you think that france turning down a vist by a US pupet mean they supported Sadam

I'm not an idiot. I know geography like my pocket and all France having been almost everywhere.

The Iraqi president had to visit in Europe:

Berlin
Rome
Paris
Brussels (NATO)
Strasbourg (the EU Parliament)

Before he has canceled the visit in Strasbourg, Chirac has canceled the Paris meeting.

In your opening post you claimed france canceled the vist to Strasbourg. Are you now withdrawing that claim?

Actually France was the second biggest supplier of weapons to the Saddam regime, right behind USSR/Russia.

So? France is slighly more likely to get it's money now.

So where did the US rank in supplying Saddam with weapons?

I can't even name one single weapon in Iraq's arsenal that was manufactured in the United States.
