We've all heard the claim that 84% of the US believes 9/11 was an inside job. Over... and over... and over.

Well I found these poll results pretty interesting.

Should ABC fire Rosie, as O'Reilly implies?
Yes, she crossed the line 61%
No, it's free speech 39%
Total Votes: 141,411

What do you think of this debate?
It's a ratings stunt 60%
It's a valid one 40%
Total Votes: 165,528

That's a survey of hundreds of thousands too. A nice, large sample size

You should see the poll numbers on the validity of internet polls.

Yeah I'm not saying this proves anything :p;)

Just found it interesting.

I'm not a truth and I voted "No, it's free speech".

Because it is, it just isn't very educated free speech.

The best poll imaginable:

NYC residents: 8,000,000+

Twoofers at GZ on 9/11/06 - 1,000
Twoofers at GZ on an average Saturday - 25+ (?)
Twoofers who rallied in support of Rosie - 20

I'm not a truth and I voted "No, it's free speech".

Because it is, it just isn't very educated free speech.

But does that mean she can say whatever the hell she wants and ABC has to let her keep her job?

If the poll said "Should Rosie be arrested for her comments?", I'd say no.

For both questions, the ~40% minority who gave the "pro-troofer" answer must be larger than the number who agree with the troofers. For the first question, people like JAStewart who disagree with Rosie but defend free speech will also answer "No, it's free speech." For the second question, people who aren't convinced by "inside job" theories but find the subject interesting enough to be debated will also answer "It's a valid one."

I'd like to see a real, properly conducted poll that not only asks what people think of 9/11 theories, but also reveals how much they really care about them. For instance, include one of those "how do you rank the following issues in importance" questions where the choices include economic issues, environmental issues, education, crime, taxes, and ending the Iraq war, as well as "investigating the events of 9/11." Position that question before the one(s) asking things like "Do you believe that 9/11 was an inside job?" and "Do you believe that the government has not told the truth about the events of 9/11?"

My psychic prediction is that the percentage listing investigating 9/11 as their most important issue would be far smaller than the percentage saying "yes" to "I believe 9/11 was an inside job." Which will cause twoofers to conclude that the poll must be rigged -- how could anyone who claims to believe 9/11 was an inside job not regard that belief as the most important thing in the entire world?

Because apparently people can believe in things without believing in them enough to act on those beliefs. If all the people who claim to really believe in heaven and hell acted as though they really believed in heaven and hell, the world would be a very different (not necessarily better, just different) place.

Respectfully,
Myriad
