IE8 Problems

I recently installed the release version of IE8 but it seems to have a problem with not only the google search box (see attachment) but it is also affecting pages i need for work and which only work in IE. Does anybody know what to do about the mini search boxes?

I'm running XP Media Center w. Service Pack 3.

I admit it's not an issue I pay a lot of attention to (Firefox user but some sites I still need IE for) but my impression of IE8 is a massive can of worms on the backwards compatibility front. I would stick with IE7
 
I assume it's the browser and not the code? (The page seems to be OK in other browsers so I assume so.)

It always struck me that IE is incredibly tolerant of crappy html. Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing I don't know - on one hand it does mean that some screwed-up pages display more or less OK, but on the other it allows web authors who only look to see if their pages look passable in IE to get away with murder.

If they do start to tighten up the browser's tolerance for invalid html, it might upset a few people.

I think that has to be problem with something other than vanilla IE 8 - are you running any add-ons, I think I read somewhere that there is a problem with Stardock's WindowsBlinds that causes a problem like this?
 
Just looked at your screen-shot and it does seem that you have some skinning application running. I suggest either switching that off or excluding IE 8 from being skinned.
 
You do realize that IE8 hasn't been released yet as a final version, and you are basically beta testing it don't you? This is "release candidate 1".

You should be telling Microsoft of the problem.

I suspect you may be right. Pressure to complete work meant I uninstalled it and went back to 7 yesterday but I'll install it again over the weekend and add it as an exception for windowblinds. Thanks Darat :)

I actually didn't pay a great deal of attention to be honest. It installed it via windows update while I was busy with other things and I just presumed it was the finished article. I'd previously had the earlier beta version installed and that didn't suffer from this problem.
