Anyone know? I'm referring to whenever I change the volume or hit play/pause on my laptop, a black box pops up in the upper left, where I can also click the controls...but I don't want the damn thing and it feels like it hangs there forever. Tried doing an internet search to no avail. I'm on Win 10 FWIW.

My problem is usually the exact opposite - on web pages with pop-up ads. It's impossible to find the control in the screen because it's always in a different place, and it seems they start playing at 100% regardless of what the system is set at.

Gripe aside, perhaps you could use the function keys instead? Mine has an option so you don't have to press the Fn button to get them to work. Mine are F1, 2, and 3 (Mute, Vol down, and Vol up, respectively). Also, clicking outside the controls window should disappear it.

Thanks - not sure I follow on the F keys; how do you program them, and might that mess up apps that use them for other things?

Gotta love MS - shoves crap in people's face they don't want and no way to turn it off -

As far as I know, my Function Keys have always been pre-programmed. There are even little icons saying what they do. The actual functions can be changed in your Settings. But the only ones I ever use are for Volume and Brightness when I don't feel like using the popup.
