Houdini the Spy?

A book is due to be released claiming that Houdini worked as a spy for Scotland Yard. This sounds somewhat incredible to me, especially the statement that he may have been murdered. Im looking forward to reading the book, but I'm wondering what folks who have a better knowledge of the man than I think about this?

That's ridiculous. He spent a lot of time in England, true, but he didn't spend enough time in the company of politicians in any country to have been a spy.
Also I don't think his personality and ego could was compatible with the work.

There were witnesses to the blow that eventually killed Houdini - if that was a deliberate murder it was a piss-poor way to do it. He didn't die for a while, and it was of complications to something that nobody but Houdini and his doctor would have known.

Read The Life and Many Deaths of Harry Houdini, by Ruth Brandon. The idea is rather preposterous that he was a spy, let alone murdered.

email Mr.Randi.

He said it was ridiculous. I rather think he should know.

How many books have been written about Houdini?

and not a hint, right...

You know...George Washington was a spy for Mexico.

If you're going to be a spy and do stuff like sneak into buildings, who better than a magician? ;)

And many of his performances were done by his identical twin brother giving him time to slip of and do some espionage. I know this because my spirit guide converses with the Houdini brothers every day.
