Long story short, I was awarded a TAM grant at the last minute. Although awesome, It has made things complicated because I do not have a lot of time to plan. Does anyone know of a cheap (but not too cheap) hotel near the South Point hotel? And since Im asking that, anyone know of cheap round trip air fares from LAX to LAS (Mccarran) airport?
Much help is appreciated. :)

Congratulations on your grant!

WRT the hotel, there are a couple of threads here from people willing to take in roommates at the South Point. Might be a solution.

ETA: Looks like xinit beat me to it!

I have found that Southwest is the least expensive fare from LAX to LAS. Go directly to there site. Thing is, I've never booked this late. So it's bound to be more than it was a couple of months ago.
 
I just checked the Southwest site and out if curiosity priced the days we will be there (Tuesday to Monday). $32 there and $49 -$69 return, plus fees.
