So I was taking the Mercutiette to horseback riding lessons, and while waiting, I see flyers and pamphlets for a "Holistic Clinic" to be held May 1st, where there will be
  • Chiropractor/Acupuncture
  • Massage Therapy
  • Natural Horsemanship
  • Pet Psychic
  • Reiki Master
  • Massage Therapy (again)
  • Farrier
Near as I can tell, only the last even comes close to normal horse stuff...but the flyer is just too much fun.

the chiro/acupuncture person:
  • Graduated from Perdue College of Veterinary Medicine in 1984 and has been in practice for 20 years.
  • Persued (sic) an interest in acupuncture and chiropractic early in his career and graduated from the International Veterinary/Acupuncture Society and becoming certified from the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association.
  • His practice is now limited to Equine sports lameness.
One of the massage therapists:
  • Personally trained by the originator of Equine Sports Message (sic) Jack Meagher
  • Showcased by PBS on their program "N. H. Crossroads"
  • A.M.T.A. Sports Message (sic) Team Member Boston Marathon Message (sic) Committee
  • Extensively trained in traditional Chinese medical theory and acupuncture
  • Designed and developed handmade magnetic therapeutics (small and large animal blankets and bedding)
  • Graduate of New England Institute of Message (sic) and University of New Hampshire
The Reiki Master:
  • A certified Equine and Canine Trigger Point Myotherapist and Reiki Master. Graduated from the Equi-Myo School in 1994
  • Added the energy work to her practice in 1997 after realizing the benefits of using energetic healing along with the physical body work.
  • It is this connection of energetic and physical harmony to allow maximum healing that She (sic) will be addressing during her session.
  • J*** is happy to be able to bring relief and comfort to the animals that have given her so much joy and pleasure throughout her life
And my favorite, the pet psychic (though not "the" pet psychic):
  • Has been speaking to animals all her life.
  • Assisted countless humans to understand animals who share in our lives.
  • Works with veterinarians, chiropractors, acupuncturists, and animal massage therapists and other practitioners involved in caring for our animal companions.
  • Using clinics, demonstrations and private readings, to transforms (sic) our relationships with all creatures that share our world.

*sigh*

These flyers will be up for the next couple of weeks. Is there one source--say, a veterinary website--that I could scrawl on the flyer next week?

Complain to the place where the horse riding lessons are held? Do they support practices which would put horses in danger? Is there a vet on the premises who agrees with this stuff? What about the community vet, do they agree with this? Put up your own flyer for Quackwatch, scrawl a url at the bottom of their flyers.... turn up on the day with some support and ask sticky questions.

If you're in the UK and the leaflet makes any sort of claim, report it to the ASA - they're actually getting quite good at slapping this sort of thing down.
