Seems to be a hot topic right now. Some of these topics are picked up on a vet forum of all places, really cool...

Site geared to 'treating' children:

"give reward for every wart that disappears"
This site seems to exclude the usual disdain for mainstream medicine, but also includes the treatments...to kinda show suppport or to show it as crazy compared to 'holistic treatments'?
In fevers, it says use Tylenol if child is uncomfortable. Shouldn't it say use Tylenol if fever is over x temperature?
One site I know poo poos Tylenol use because fevers can help a kid fight a disease.
Well, my doctor said only to use it if the fever is over a certain temp (can't remember exactly at moment, but think it was at 104 degrees).
I'm just not sure what to think. It really doesn't hurt to use alternatives alongside regular care, but is that the intention of this site? Or is it just posing as doctor friendly so that parents can think regular care is unnecessary?

Am I reading too much into this? My experiences on antidoctor mommy sites has got me thinking.

The use of Salicylic acid for up to 3 months covered by bandaid.
6 weeks vs 3 months. Might this suggest that the salicylic acid may be wayyy less effective than using just a bandaid and airing it out every week?
I dunno. It also suggests to see doc if wart hasn't dissappeared after 6 months of home therapy.
I just question the site. I might be getting overly paranoid here.

Here they claim they are in collaboration with integrating holistic with pediatric care and are backed by Harvard Med school as part of the project.
Why would doctors and medical facilities support unproven therapies until/if they don't work after 6 months, and then have people come see a pediatrician or doctor? Wouldn't it be far more effective to get medical attention right away...even for warts-to help prevent the warts spreading/getting infected?
This just doesn't make sense to me.

Holistic medicines never demonstrate their effectiveness scientifically, and indeed usually display great contempt for scientific studies which are designed to weed out the good from the bad treatments.
It is more useful to describe such medical practices as a social movement rather than a branch of science or health care. The twin aims of practitioners are to institutionalize their ideas in order to achieve greater social acceptance, and to loosen the demands which are normally imposed upon anyone making empirical claims. The first goal, obviously, requires the second - and the second can have terrible consequences for society.

"give reward for every wart that disappears"
Mind/Body
· Hypnosis or suggestion - Tell child that she can tell her warts to go away
Imagine the wart disappearing or melting away and her immune system fighting the warts, feeling the warmth or tingling as the blood carries it away. Give reward for every wart that disappears.

· Soak in hot water 3 times a week. Should start to see results in 3 weeks.

· Salicylic acid (Compound W, Duofilm) Soak wart in warm water, peel away loose skin, apply medicine to wart and cover with tape or Band-Aid. Repeat once a day up to 3 months.

· Keep wart warm and in the dark. Cover wart tightly with tape or Band-Aid for one week. Wash the wart, let it air out then cover it for another week. Repeat for 6 weeks.
