Ok, so I was wondering if anyone else have this problem:
Thursday I bought a camera, the mentioned JVC Everio GX-MG50, for the sole purpose of starting to make small videostreams and photos for the www (For this purpose and homevideo the quality is sufficient, even if it's not the Pro-Sumer/Pro quality I'm used to and the button placement sucks for some parts) and I'm immensely happy with it.
Just one problem: THe camera records in a MPEG-2 format called MOD.
This means that when I try to run it in anything, even the included PowerDirector Express NE, to edit, I get a "Invalid Fileformat" box. Annoying.
Now the official sentiment is that I have to run it past a converter first, but that have the unfortunate sideeffect of having to recompress and thus compromising the quality. (IT's the same for still: DON'T recompress ANYTHING untill you are completely finished. Work in a lossless inviroment like PSD or TIFF for stills).
I found a solution (Rename the *.mod fileextension to *.mpg and installed an AC3 layer for audio. Now there's no problem. Even set up a batch converterfile for the renaming part.
But I would really like simply being able to import the darned thing directly, so I was wondering if anyone access to/ a link to a place where I can find the Mod-Codec or a way of associating the *.mod extension with the MPG driver automaticly from windows?
Please note that the inner workings of win XP in regards to that kind of work are NOT my favorite.
