It's still working and responding --- I'm controlling it with the keyboard. But no mouse pointer. Can anyone think what's happened or say how to get it back?

Yes, I have tried rebooting the computer, and no, the mouse hasn't come unplugged.

Thanks.

Has the mouse 'scheme' been changed? On the XP control panel, 'Mouse' has a number of options for, for example, extra large pointers. Perhaps adjusting these will get it to reappear.

A brilliant plan with just one snag --- there doesn't seem to be a "Restore defaults" option.

I bet the pointer had dropped off the screen and was lying right there on his desk.

Personally, I bet the computer just became disgusted with all the fundy/woo sites Dr. A peruses in his studies, and the mouse pointer quite simply commited suicide.

Luckily, he was able to visit a homeopathic chiro-actupunterist site that sold a detoxifying magnetic healing energy quantum crystal, which restored the pointers life and gave it a new sense of purpose.

Of course, the pointer then went on to purchase $8000 worth of premium speaker cable (about 3 foot or so), so it's a double-edged sword.

:D

"Fred Phelps again? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

Sounds like a Robot Chicken sketch. :D
