Ok; Hi, all. It's me again.
This time I have a real problem for you all to solve.
It seems that after 1 short week having my computer returned from my know-it-all computer-savvy brother-in-law, I've seemed to pick up something called Heavy.com which has co-opted Yahoo and makes it impossible to surf the net.
I've done several scans with Ad-aware v6, and a couple of scans with AVG ( which was recently installed) But the damned thing keeps coming up each time I try to log on to the internet. We just recently signed up for DSL and I'm using a wireless adapter upstairs on my desktop. The wife's wired to the router.
Any suggestions?

what do you mean by "co-opted Yahoo"? He may have set Heavy.com as an active desktop item. What OS are you using?
In XP you can Right-Click your desktop and click Properties.
Click the Desktop Tab
Click Customize Desktop
Click the Web Tab
If any of those web pages are Checked, un-check them.
Click OK
Click OK

Any suggestions?

These won't help alleviate your current problem, but when things get back on track:

  • Use Firefox instead of IE. (say buh-bye to spyware)
  • Setup and use a limited account for surfing, email, and everyday stuff. (trojans and other nasties will find it much more difficult, if not impossible, to gain a toehold on your system)
