And certain Christians wonder why they're looked at like total dopes...

Shortly past the halfway mark of my ride, a car shined a bright light from behind me. It was a spot light on an Antioch police car. The car stopped and being blinded by the light, I stepped over to the side of the car where I could see the officer. My approaching the car put the officer on defense. He rudely yelled and ordered me to get in front of his car without offering any explanation. When I disobeyed his order by asking him again "what's the problem officer?", I was ordered not only to get in front of the police car but to lay on the ground with my hands on my back. Being the person that I am, I refused to lay in the dirt until I was at least told my crime. The officer yelled at me several times to lay down each time I replied with "why- what is my crime?" or similar inquiry as to question the authority of the actions being taken. At this point I had no proof that the people dressed in police uniforms were in fact legitimate police officers - they certainly were not acting like it - by my definition of what a "public servant" aka "police officer" is supposed to do. The officers never even asked me my name or where I live or told me any crime I was guilty of.

The officer (24 year old J. Joannides #3346) then drew his stick and approached me with the stick raised in the air still demanding me to assume arrest position. I made one small move that unleashed a whole series of events. As the officer prepared to swing the stick, I grabbed the other end in order to prevent him from swinging it at me and tried to reason with the officer one last time. His partner (Reserve officer Steve Thomas #3402 (even younger I think) ) sprayed mace or pepper spray in my face from close range, I pulled his stick away from him, threw it down and stepped back. I was unable to see much but I could tell that I was being hit with a flashlight. I blocked many hits to my face, but eventually laid on the ground on the left side of my body, feeling blow after blow of sticks, flashlights and boots. I never returned the attack or made a single offensive move - If I had there certainly would have been one or more fatalities that night. When the first backup officer arrived, I was already on the ground with 2 officers on top of me still hitting me with sticks and flashlights. The backup officer (S. Aiello #2335) jumped on my back went crazy punching me in the face until a few more backups arrived. Aiello brags in his filed police report about how he closed fist punched me multiple times.

Eventually they let me up, and immediately lied to the other officers that had arrived, telling them that I hit them with my CD player. Aiello attacked me before he heard this even though he saw I was posing no threat at the moment he arrived. One of the officers stepped on my CD player and they are keeping it in evidence to show the jury how it broke while I attacked them with it. They are keeping my bicycle too to show the damage that happened while I supposedly threw it at them. Funny how both officers 'remember' the CD player attack, but one left out the bicycle attack - seems to me like they both would remember an event like that in their police reports. They both said I pushed them into a barbed wire fence but there are no tears in the uniform and no puncture wounds on either officer. Antioch's own pictures reveal this, and the uniform was sent to the cleaner and ready for use according to the evidence detective.

My injuries include a broken nose, two black eyes, 4 inch wide bruises down my right arm, marble sized welts on my right leg and back. I had a deep cut on my forehead, swollen shut nose, and scrapes on my face (Photo courtesy of Antioch Police Department), shoulder, arms (my arm 1 week after), and knees. My head was gushing so much blood that the rescue helicopter was called. (I have been told it was not a rescue helicopter, but it was more backup police forces incase the ground forces were not enough). They closed the road at both ends in preparation for the helicopter landing so as far as I know there were no witnesses except the two rookies and the first backup officer. After 2 weeks my injuries included sickness, chills, and sweating from all the blood under my skin in my arm and leg - It pooled up in my foot that remained purple until about the 3rd week. The human body is an awesome thing, after 8 months I have no trace of the attack except for a small scar on my forehead and nose. One officer was treated for a scrape on his knee, and the other was released from the hospital immediately.

I drive through Antioch on a fairly regular basis. I've never had a problem with their police department, (and actually, when I've had to deal with them, I've always gotten along with them very well.) I read through this, and had no problem figuring out why this guy had a problem: You do what the cops tell you when they tell you, and everything goes pretty smooth. No hassles, no headaches, no nothing.

I don't doubt this guy got clobbered a time or two. If he'd grabbed [/i]my[/i] knightstick, I'd have popped him, too.

Trust me: read through this whole thing. If you're a Christian, you have my sympathy for being associated with this twink.

This guy's just plain crazy. Christian or not, he's just a loony toon. Anyone who can rationalize grabbing a cop's nightstick deserves to get the crap beaten out of him. ;)

I've said it many times: stupidity SHOULD be painful. :)

The guy is an idiot.

I make a point to watch TV programs featuring arrests of suspects with my boys. I always point out that the vast majority of time the officers win both during the arrest and in court. It's very unlikely that any good can come from challenging police officers. Just do as your told.

I have a problem with authority and right or wrong I don't like dealing with the police and I have a real attitude towards them. *I think far too many of them have an authority complex. To be fair there are some really cool cops out there.

Most important: IMO, the police are by and large professional. If you are compliant you will mitigate any negative consequences of the event. Police are not judges or juries. Any incident involving the police is not the place to try your case. Of course after you have complied with the officers requests (demands) it is quite appropriate to engage in dialog and using logic, charm or appealing to the compassion of the officer try to talk your way out of any ticket or arrest. This has worked for me on a few occasions. Confrontation never works (yeah, when I was young I had a few confrontations).

There are of course exceptions. But you better have a damn good reason to fail to comply with the instructions of a police officer because as I said, little good will likely come of it.

*I will concede that this might just be my perception. Ed knows I have an ego problem.

My 2 cents.

Uhh, do you know what a "twink" is? An unfiltered Google image search will show you right away, don't do it w/ other people around though! ;)

That guy wasn't beaten enough, apparently... I bet he had his shirt off too, like all the yahoos on "Cops" do for some reason. :D

Did the search.

Hmmmmm.

Better not mention this to Year Zero on any of the Fred Phelps threads...

Probably. As far as I'm concerned, there's a reason guys like this wind up on the outside of society. They can't seem to figure out if they'd get their heads out of their @$$es for a couple of minutes, and take a look at what's actually going on around them, they might stay out of trouble.

I actually had a friend from church tell one guy who was like this that maybe he ought to have a piece of plexiglass surgically implanted in his belly. That way he could see where he was going. (And, oddly enough, the Pastor agreed.)*

*And, no, I won't tell you which Pastor.

So if you disobey a cops order they have carte blanche to beat the living snot out of you?

Nope. Its too long and dull. Whats the Cliff Note version of whats missing?

Just tell us the pertinent points that are missing. From what is posted I don't see any way the cops can be defended unless you are enamored of living in a police state. "I'm a cop. Lay in the dirt." That's enough for you?

Come on!!!! I read the stuff at the top of the thread. Thats supposed to be enough! Thats the unwritten rule here!

Word.

Taking the clip as is, the dude may have been a fool but he didnt deserve the beating he got.

These are very physically threatening actions. How would you react, if you were the police officer?

I don't think that's a legal place to park a motorcycle.

How would you react if your the citizen. Its instinct to protect yourself from being clobbered.

I've had police ask me questions before. I was polite, compliant, it took them 20 seconds to figure out I had a legitimate reason to be there, and we each went on our way. No problem.

There is a difference between bravery and stupidity.

Wow...a "Faith Based" "Cutting edge software development company." Interesting...

WWJC? (What Would Jesus Code?)

Code:
int lordsPrayer() {
   public heaven.father.name.hallowed();
   if(kingdome.come())
   {
     earth=heaven.father.will.done();
   }
   heaven.father.giveDailyBead(us);
   heaven.father.forgiveTrespasses(us);
   us.forgiveTrespasses(them);
   ...
}

Hmm... it won't compile. Even if I make the return type "void" (what any function of type prayer usually returns.) Maybe I forgot to declare a variable...
