Has anybody read this book?

Sounds like something Camile Paglia would like... although it's not cited in Sexual Personae...

It's available to download via project Gutenberg
here, as it's a Victorian era novel and thus free for download.

If you prefer reading online - it's here too.

I'll see if I have the time - I promised I'd get working on another book first. I like Lovecraft, so who knows.

Ah - there's a fan site, or 'society' as authors generally have. http://www.machensoc.demon.co.uk/

BTW, did you find a copy of 'My Family and Other Animals', Cleopatra? We teach it to Year 8 students as an introdution to autobiography. You may like the opening pages - here.

Please forgive the derail. God I love Camile. A lesbian who loves men for simply being men is truly great in my eyes. Vamps and Tramps and Sexual Personae are worthy in my eyes also.

Carry on.

Thanks for the links, I was aware of them but I bought the book because I find it easier to read a book.
Well, I don't know what gothic is but this book is how I imagine gothic.
One of my new pursuits is everything that is related to God Pan.

Ok one doesn't need to be a Lesbian to feel that way. Most women love men for simply being men.

:D We need to discuss about Literature. Why do we spend our time in the Politics Forum? :D

If you liked Machen you will love HP Lovecraft, Hogdson, algernon blackwood and robert bloch.

im a big fan of cosmic horror ;) , i love all those guys... well, their books...

algernon blackwood and Machen are hard to put into any genre, its horror but with some strange love or appeal to nature´s mysteries and ancient myth, greek and roman in the case of Machen.

Read it, its not great super nobel prize literature but it has its own very interesting and fascinating stuff if you really get into it.

I read it a long time ago, it was pretty good. One of the early classics of the genre. It's really not much more than a short story, and it's frequently included in compilations of horror classics. It's only a bit like Lovecraft, a lot more Pagan with a lot less of HPL's undertone of agoraphobia.
