Happy 100th birthday, Henry Kissinger, you rat ass old bastard!

Now, he did do some worthwhile things, such as supporting our brave Earthican space troops:

“You have the bravery of a hero and breath as fresh as a summer ham."

That thread title sounds like some good ol' boy joshing with a pat on the back.

The man should have been tried for crimes against humanity back when he let the Argentine military slaughter young protestors in that country, and when he pushed the overthrow of the elected Chilean government just because American interests wanted to keep their lucrative copper mines. And that's just for starters.

It sucks he's lived to be 100.

Give him his due: in a world where abounds the stereotype of evil German Nazis, Kissinger is a shining example of an evil German who isn't a Nazi. What a trailblazer!

As evil as he obviously is, I don't see how Kissinger, as an advisor to power, can be held responsible for the crimes committed by said power. Until we're ready to prosecute presidents for their murderous misdeeds, their advisors should be just as immune to consequences.

He could be, it's probably too late. He still has to be careful which countries he travels too outside of the US.

It's a documented fact that Kissinger by himself changed the selection of bombing targets in Vietnam from what the DOJ had chosen.

He is definitely a war criminal

And still treated as a respected elder statesman by far too many.

As far as I know there's nothing stopping him from being prosecuted. You read stories about long lost German death camp guards getting put on trial in their extreme old age. Crimes against humanity have no expiration date.

I mean...ya? Can we all get on board with that?

Outside of all the bad things he did it seems like Kissinger is ground zero for the whole insufferable modern political puppet theater, everything being double speak, everything being an under the table deal, everything being "I'll scratch your back" and just the whole everything is an open secret in that "Everybody knows, everyone knows everyone knows, everybody knows everyone knows that everyone knows, but nobody says anything" way game.

*Laughs* He was on the board of Theranos for 3 years.

He's also an honorary Harlem Globetrotter which is just that kind of deep weird that reality throws our way from time to time.

He does seem ripe for a reassessment. I'm dubious of his supposed grand competency. He seems to have been quite good at self promotion among the people that mattered, but evidence of his actual skills as a foreign policy expert seems quite lacking.

Feet to the fire I do wonder how Kissinger would be seen by history if he wasn't so intertwined with Nixon.

I'm not saying he'd been seen better, if anything odds to the opposite, but I am curious of just what his general "vibe" would be.

I hold Dick Cheney & Donald Rumsfeld just as responsible for W's Iraq war disaster as I do W himself, if not more.

An odious little troll who, despite his gradiose self-fluffing, never managed to achieve anything worthwhile.
