Hans Holzer has died at the age of 89.

He claimed a doctorate from a non-existent University, taught Parapsychology at a trade school in New York and wrote more than 100 books including a book or two about Amityville.

Holzer was born in Vienna, Austria. His interest in the supernatural was sparked, at a young age, by stories told to him by his uncle Henry. He went on to study archaeology and ancient history at the University of Vienna but sensing that war was imminent, his family decided it was unsafe to stay in Austria and left the country for New York City in 1938. He studied japanese at Columbia University and comparative religion and parapsychology at London College of Applied Science - obtaining a Ph.D. He went on to teach parapsychology at the New York Institute of Technology.

I'm sad that he is dead. I don't agree with his methods but he certainly put a lot of effort into his field and I believe he put out his best.

But I heard his daughter on "The Paracast" not too long ago and she is...well...way out there. One of those "do whatever is right for you" and was very defensive about setting up some sort of uniform protocol for ghost hunting.

They both presupposed that "mediums" are real, however, and say you HAVE to have one to hunt ghosts and communicate with them.
