This is one "science" that I really loath and I don't feel it gets enough attention from the sceptic ranks.

The main reason why I think this is one of the more evil woo woo disciplines is because it seems to be encroaching on our everyday life, against our wishes. Some companies employ graphology as a screening process for applicants. However much things like homeopothy or psyhcics get on you nerves, at least they only tend to take the gullible and willing for a ride.

In the news this week was a pretty substantial new report about a graphologist's analysis of Mary Queen of Scots final letters. Apparently she was "under stress". This pithy nonsense is bad enough, but the report manages to quote all manner of people who then stupidly lend professional credability to this garbage, including psychologists and historians.

Graphology is an effective employment test.

I know I wouldn't work for any company that suggested it.

See? It works. ;)

There is an actual scientific component to graphology, and that's forensic graphology. More properly, handwriting comparison.

Deals with forgeries, "disguised" handwriting, and so forth. Nothing to do with personality analysis.

Shermer did a piece on graphology in his series Exploring The Unkown. Funny thing is the graphologist they got for the show I ran into online.. in the forum for medium Suzane Northrope.

woo-woos of a feather believe togeather.
