After calling for bills to go through a regular committee process, the bill that would repeal the health care law will not go through a single committee. Despite promising a more open amendment process for bills, amendments for the health care repeal will be all but shut down. After calling for a strict committee attendance list to be posted online, Republicans backpedaled and ditched that from the rules. They promised constitutional citations for every bill but have yet to add that language to early bills.

Republicans say there are subtle reasons for these moves and that they certainly will follow their own rules throughout the 112th Congress. But the hedging on some promises shows just how hard it will be to always match the sharp rhetoric of the campaign with the ugly and complex work of running the House.

I thought some of the rule changes they made were good. They got rid of the commemorative bills (National Tunafish Sandwich Day), which I thought was a waste of precious time. But I guess the new rules don't apply when they are inconvenient to the GOP.

My god! Do you know what this means? Republican politicians are politicians!

But they promised they were different. :p

This is less a reversal on a campaign promise than it is a reversal on what was supposed to be one of their core principals.

And yeah, like Spindrift said, I figured it would take a bit of time before it was revealed that the supposed fiscal conservatives don't really care about being fiscally conservative.

And where's the outraged BeAChooser thread claiming the GOP are a pack of liars?

He seems really concerned about politicians being hypocritical or at least inconsistent. Surely he's not simply partisan!

Use this in the future, it will help us save "O's"

Last night, I sent a letter to my newly-elected Republican congressman regarding this very thing.
I pointed out that though Republicans seem to see the election as a vindication of their viewpoint that "Everything Obama Is Evil", most of the constituents seem to be saying "quit the partisan bickering and nonsense and get to work for the people."

I told him that the health-care "repeal" was simple grandstanding and an utter waste of time; as Harry Reid said... "This is dead as soon as it hits Congress".
As well, more grandstanding like reading the Constitution....

The country has serious problems and the voters expect their representatives to work productively on same. If this doesn't occur, I expect the next election will bring about another spate of tossing the rascals out.
