Golden Dawn Research Center

Bet they take VISA, Mastercard, Diners Club and American Express.

Wow! That is some wacky stuff.

How on earth do they recruit new members? It's all so complicated, bizarre, convoluted and yet dull that it would put anyone off.

They have a forum but I just don't have the energy right now.

Today in the modern world of electronics and computers, there is much confusion as to what the Golden Dawn is. There are those who have even sought to convince the unaware that Thelema is part and parcel of the Golden Dawn currents of energy. Nothing could be further from the truth, as Thelema and Golden Dawn system have about as much in common as a hound dog and a raccoon. There is even a group claiming to be Thelemic-Golden Dawn. Much of their appeal is to the masses who found it as easy to switch from "the real thing" to the "choice of a new generation" as they have from the "classical Western Mysteries tradition" to the "New Aeon" of Aleister Crowley

The historic Golden Dawn (not to be confused with any current group borrowing the name) was formulated...

I've sometimes thought of suggesting to Bablefish they provide a 'new age' translator. The above quote translates to:

"pay no attention to imitations, we are the real thing".

The most difficult thing about speaking 'new age' is paying attention without falling asleep. It usually takes several metaphor laden paragraphs of text to convey a simple thought. They could do it with some library algorithms though, combined with a search on some key phrases.

Most people are drawn to the GD (Golden Dawn) and related sects by reading books by Aleister Crowley.

It's not actually "New Age" at all but a much older branch of practices called Ceremonial Magic. The roots of Ceremonial go all the way back to biblical times, so I was told.

One famous CM magician was King Solomon. Solomon's Seal (used for evocation, I think) is still used today, and so is his Goetia. The GD is based on some of Solomon's work, but I don't think anyone has been able to actually reproduce the belief system he used in its entirety.

Also included in the Ceremonial Magic branch: Ordo Templi Orientis, Thelema, Enochian, Necromancy, Alchemy, Simon Necronomicon, Tattwa, and Qabalah.

**edit** Oh yeah, the OP mentioned Rosicrucians. Them too. :D

Damn. I can't believe I remember all that... I never practiced it myself. Ah, the things we absorb over time... :con2:

There are a couple dozen book devoted to the GD, King Solomon, etc. at the Witchery (a local purveyor of woo accessories), more so than I've seen at any of the other 'New Age' shops. From what I can tell, it seems to attract the not-so airie-fairie crowd.

(I like to think that I go to these shops to look at the selection of jewellery, but really, it's to see what sort of things people are willing to buy!)
