Globalism and morality

From the American view the positive side of Globalism is that many workers worldwide in very poor countries will experience a significant increase in their standard of living because the manufacturing of certain products that were manufactured in America are manufactured in their country.

From the American view the negative side of Globalism is that the standard of living of many Americans will decline significantly because of the work that has gone to poor countries.

What moral judgment should an American take toward Globalism? I have no answers to this very difficult question. This is the type of question that leads some people, like me, to duck their moral principles.

Both those points are debatable. Many anti-globalisation protesters think globalisation is bad for poor countries. I think they're wrong, on the whole. But there are exceptions and change always throws up losers as well as winners.

It seems to me Americans (and Europeans) overwhelmingly benefit from globalisation. Some jobs are lost but there is a clear net gain to the US economy through cheaper products and lower labour costs for companies who outsource (though maybe that gain is distributed unequally).

When I speak of America I should have said American workers. I am confident that America on average gains from Globalization but the workers do not get this net gain. The gain goes to those with capital not those who labor. Those with labor are net losers.

In America if one looks at gross numbers I think it will clearly show a net increase. The problem is that this gain goes to those with capital and not to the workers with family incomes below $50,000.

Less expensive goods are a gain for workers. I suspect the job insecurity and job loss plus the stagnate wages are not to the workers advantage.

Job-wise its not an issue we do have more jobs and business as a result of more wealth in the world.

The problem is human rights. China has to stop whipping their workers.
How do we fight the negative effects of 'globalism' (insignificant countries copping an attitude with us). Protectionism, the threat of it.
The whole world lives off the West. We just show we are willing ot 'go it alone' and they submit to our needs.
Eventually they will have to be 'straightened out' but hey thats life.
