Global Consciousness Project Alert

The Global Consciousness Project Index is a real time data analysis of the Global Consciousness Project. It collects the data each minute and runs statistics on the stream of random numbers. It displays different colors for different percentages of coherence in the random numbers. The color is now red ("Red is 5% which is regarded as "significant") This apparently also happened before the attacks of 9/11, and according to the scientists involved, should indicate something of significant global importance is about to happen.

So here's our chance to witness the predictive value of the GCP.

Hmmm...why am I entirely unsurprised by the completely vagueness of the alert? We're on yellow as I write this, which means there's "a little bit of coherence" between the eggs.

That's strange, because on my computer it's still red (and it doesn't change when I reload or restart my browser). The color isn't supposed to change that fast because it's supposed to represent the average of the past hour.

If the circle at the top of the page is the index, mine is yellow.

Does anyone expect the circle to remain the same color for very long?

From http://noosphere.princeton.edu/gcindex.html :

The program creates a Chisquare for the most recent hour (the sum of 3600 seconds' Z² values). The probability of the Chisquare is then calculated. This value, representing the average departure of an hour of data from expectation, is recalculated each second in a sliding window, adding a new second and dropping the trailing second. Thus, the display changes very slowly, and gives an impression of the state of the network averaged over a substantial period.

It's red! Alert! ... No, orange. ... Red again. Something is happening!

You're right! Several things are happening!

• U.S. offensive begins after attacks
• Police: Soldier kills Arab commuters
• Girl dies after collapsing at Disney park
• Search continues for missing miner
• Two die after small planes collide
• Lobbyists gave to DeLay, Reid funds
• Former N.J. governor has book deal

Most of those things probably happened yesterday but I think that counts too.

Is this the part where we start arguing about whether the coherence corresponds to a "significant event"?

Well, if I understand it correctly, something in the order of 9/11 should happen now.

Well, we're down to yellow, so maybe only a small building.

Still red for me. Must mean something terrible is only gonna happen to me. If you don't hear from me anymore I'm probably dead.

I just browsed the GCP site and I'm impressed by the results. They correlate very strong deviations from chance with such important events as "Korea's birthday" and "Group Mind Meditation 2".

The program creates a Chisquare for the most recent hour [...]

Well, I'll be hornswoggled. A computer program that harnesses the awesome power of Chi! Almost as amazing as my ability to breathe using two Chinese rain-dragons concealed in my chest.

It's kind of like the color coded terror alert system... it will never get to blue or green, and it probably doesn't mean anything at all.

Somewhere, I remember reading about a "monitoring program" that supposedly watched for EM anomalies in a location or some such pseudoscientific-sounding thing that supposedly indicated ghosts. It turns out it was just a looping animation and didn't access anything.
