While watching programs like Ghost Hunters you often hear them say batteries go dead because ghosts like the type of energy that they store. I often thought that if they liked this type of energy why not just plug in an electric train transformer and then the spookies would have all the energy they could handle.

Well on one ghost show they did something very similar to my suggestion. They plugged in a machine and voila there was the ghost.

What I saw was this. The electricity magnetized some dust which caused it to swirl around. Could it be that when theres lightening or whatever people see this and think they're seeing spook?

I think ghosts are either hallucinations or misunderstood phenomena.

Always wondered about this:
Okay, so the huge amounts of electricity running through wiring of houses and power lines isn't enough for them? They want the tiny amounts of "energy" stored in batteries:confused:?

Did you see me say the theory was rational? I guess spookies like DC better than AC. I often wondered the same thing. Why isn't every building with electricity in the world spooks often haunt abandoned house with no electricity and eat up the batteries when you go looking for them.

Batteries may be the filet mignon of the spirit world. Regular electricity may be the undressed salad.

My god. We MUST protect the datacenter backups!

Really, if this were the case, you'd expect every computer dtaacenter in the world to be flooded. You want big batteries? That's where they are.

Oh, and on deisel-electric submarines.

But maybe it's like chocolate...you only want little bites, not a huge roomful?

Yes they are on diets

So if you're visiting a "haunted house", be sure to bring a big bag of D cells to chum up the spiritual waters.

If this were even remotely true, how would anyone anywhere EVER manage to use batteries? Surely the batteries in everything from the new pack in the kitchen junk drawer to the rechargeable drill in the garage to the toys in the kids' toybox to the toys in the parents', um, toybox, would constantly be drained.

I understand that you don't believe in their idea Cainkane1, but it's just such a silly hypothesis.

Shocking I tells ya, shocking!

No, but I was hoping someone would know how the ghost believers explained this. Didn't say you had a rational explanation yourself;).

I imagine batteries are an acquired taste, sort of like beer. Not all ghosts have tried a battery, yet. There's a lot of things to try once you're a ghost, and eating batteries is likely low on the list. Of course, once they've had a nice Ray-o-vac AA cocktail, they're hooked. I'm sure older ghosts are pushing the odd 9 volt in back of nearly abandoned Radio Shacks across America, even now... "Give it a good lick, kid, you'll love it!"

hmmm...

The thought never crossed my mind. I know that the electric company guys were thinking strange things when they had to come out and replace the transformer on the pole at the corner of the property on 3 occasions during electrical storms...I saw all three get hit too, one twice. Really cool.

You've all got it wrong. It's not the electricity that the ghosts are after. Ghosts slurp the electrolyte contained in batteries because they are junkies and get high on it!

I feel that from time to time this site needs a bit of lighthearted conversation. My post is basically making fun of the woo woo we see on TV often.

Hey this would explain the reports of phone calls from the dead.

Phone calls from the dead...now I remember those stories. Sylvia Browne, and I think Van Praagh, also, claim that not only do they ring phones, they switch radio stations and TV stations, leave coins around, move toys, and sometimes even push people out of the way of danger.

Yep...all sound so silly. If they can do all that then why can't a single one of them write a note or use a keyboard?

About batteries, well, I don't know exactly how they work (okay, I'm not a great brain! LOL) but I think I heard on "Ghost Hunters" that they are attracted to them because the ghosts are not only attracted to people to try and get their attention, but that if they also have batteries they -
1. need the energy to try and make themselves noticed
2. need to energy to be stronger and stay in our plane longer especially when people are around they are trying to communicate with

Or...something like that!
