Just got my flu shot today! Last year I forgot until it was too late. Spent all my time before TAM1 washing my hands, and turning doorknobs with my sleeve.

It just takes a minute, and you'll be sorry if you don't!

WHOA! MAKE SURE YOU CHECK WITH YOUR DOC THAT YOU ARE NOT ALLERGIC TO THE MEDIUM USED IN THE SHOT!

If you are not, and this applies to the vast majority, DO go get jabbed.

If you are....don't stand near me with your sniffling!

The shot costs 20 dollars. It would be a lot to immunize my whole troop here. I got a pamphlet on it today and talked to the ladies giving the shots. They said that the virus is cultured on egg, but no egg gets into the shots, and unless you go into shock at the sight of an egg, then you should be okay. I don't know what else is an allergen in them. She would have let me have the shot if I had the money.

so, any other allergens present?

How much does the shot cost for everyone else?

This year, the flu is hitting early and it looks like a serious one.

Some schools in Houston have 60% of the kids out -- this is very early in the season.

It also appears to be a nasty strain that hits hard and keep speople in bed and out of action longer. -Highly- recommend speaking to a doctor and asking about the shot.

I had my flu shot at work for $9.50. Probably my insurance would have paid for it though...

Our local hospital has a drive through flu shot clinic! You drive up in your car and don't even get out! They charge $17 though.

All I had was my temperature taken, and was asked about eggs.

I ordered Kitten at college to ask about getting a flu shot (she can't afford to miss a week of school). Kitten 2 refuses to get a shot! She hates needles.

We get charged for flu shots here - I don't know how much.
Some "at risk" groups are exempt from the charge - the elderly, diabetics and so on. As I fall into the latter category, my jab was free, as are all my prescriptions.
:D :D :D
Otherwise it's about £6.50 per medication, irrespective of what it may be.

I've never had a flu shot and i can't remember when i last had the flu. I'm allergic to pointed objects;) which basically means that if anybody want to poke a needle in my skin it has to be really really nescessary and frankly i don't think flu comes under that category, i'm not against immunization mind you but this one seems a bit silly to me (non lethal disease, -vaccine covers only one type, there are dozens, etc.)

Though I am officially required to get a flu shot every year I try to avoid shots period especially the flu shot, which means I have to duck and weave for a couple of weeks until my boss forgets about it. Since I haven't actually had the flu for at least a decade and if I do get it it's only a few days in bed feeling bad it seems rather unnecessary. Add in a (undoubtably psychosomatic) period of nausea and pain from the first two times and it seems rather more of a bother than it's worth.

I teach 3-5 year olds. I'll get everything that comes down the pike. You can wash your hands all you want, but when a 3 year old sneezes straight into your face (so much that you have to wash your glasses) there is no hope.

The Mr. got his flu shot for free at his office. Mine and the Littlest Peach's will be $10 each plus insurance copay. We have an appointment next Monday (she was sick this week with a high fever - her doc said it wasn't the flu - so I wanted to wait until I'm sure she's well). At her pediatrician's office, they have a little of the vaccine for adults, so I'll just go there. The nurses there are nicer than at my doctor's, and they're better at giving injections.

Ive never gotten a flu shot, and I have never had the flu.

I'm severely allergic to eggs and have always been told NOT to get the flu shot. An egg-free version has supposedly been in the works for some time now, but I don't know that it exists yet.
The flu-shot isn't the only medicine that uses egg albumin as a base, some newer sedatives do as well. When I had a minor surgical procedure that I needed to be sedated for, there were seconds away from injecting an egg-based anesthetic into my IV. Thankfully my mother was there and stopped them before. People with egg allergies need to be especially careful with these things!

Flu shots are scheduled for this Friday at my place of employment. Unfortunately, I've been home sick with the flu all week. :(

Yes, people with severe egg allergies. Mine is very minor. I might get a rash if I eat like 5 eggs. The nurse said that people at risk of anaphylactic shock should avoid any chances of egg being injected. I have yet to try any flu shots, but I wouldn't hesitate if they weren't 20 bucks.
