We have threads for specific aspects of TAM, but not one for general conversation about it.


What bar are we hanging out at?
Does anyone have a map of the hotel?

They did do a lot of renovations fairly recently, so I suspect most of them are out of date.
 
Lucky's Sports Bar

If it's too smokey, then Nine Fine Irishman is across the street in NYNY, and it's non-smoking with a nice beer selection. And the Aria is just past NYNY.
 
Though I can tolerate cigarette smoke, not being completely shrouded in smoke would be a definite plus in any hang out location, so if it's a place where people smoke, I hope there's good ventilation.

(An interesting aside; in Finland, it's been illegal to smoke inside in any space where people are working for several years now, and that includes restaurants and bars.)

Also, a "nice beer selection" doesn't sound bad at all... :)

This is pretty much also true in most of the US, especially in the major cities. Vegas is still stuck in the past.

I don't know the Tropicana, but IMO it'd be better if we find a bar or lounge at the hotel to hang out in. That's what made the Del Mar so convenient. Having to go across the street in the heat doesn't sound so appealing.

BTW, Lucky's Sports Bar opens at 5pm and closes at 1am, apparently only Friday and Saturday, according to this. What kind of a casino is this? :(

So maybe the Tropicana Lounge? Must be a huge place...

The more I hear about it, the more it sounds like The Tropicana is a relatively small place with not a lot of options to get together in, but with relatively easy and close access to other places. So maybe going to another nearby hotel/casino for leisurely activities does make sense.

Agree.

For me, TAM's big appeal is the social aspect, so this is a worrisome discussion.

First, I'm not feeling that warm fuzzy confidence that there is something comparable to the Del Mar where we can all (well, a lot of us) hang out. Hopefully this concern is baseless.

Second, even if everyone in this thread agreed that we'd all hang out at location X (ooh, "Location X" would be a good name for a bar. Or a club. Or something.), the Forumites have been a small fraction of the TAM attendees and now that the Forum is no longer part of JREF, that fraction is probably going to be even smaller. Can we get the word out to the non-Forumites?
