Before the hearing began, the Respect MP for Bethnal Green and Bow even had some scorn left over to bestow generously upon the pro-war writer Christopher Hitchens. "You're a drink-soaked former Trotskyist popinjay," Mr Galloway in formed him. "Your hands are shaking. You badly need another drink," he added later, ignoring Mr Hitchens's questions and staring intently ahead. "And you're a drink-soaked ..." Eventually Mr Hitchens gave up. "You're a real thug, aren't you?" he hissed, stalking away.

Reading this made me laugh out loud. I can't recall any US politician being so entertaining.

George has shown those wimpy democrats what they've been missing;)

It then appears that this powerline blog is correct...

The loony left has found its model politician -- Saddam Hussein's cheerleader George Galloway, who was expelled from Britain's Labour Party for, among other things, encouraging Arabs to fight British soldiers in Iraq and urging British troops not to obey "illegal orders" after stating that the war in Iraq is illegal.

A guy who spouts nothing but ad-homs is your hero?

I was listening to Hitchens last night on a talk radio station - as usual very entertaining (even when I profoundly disagree with him).

He made several comments regarding Galloway amongst them an observation I’ve made on these forums – Galloway is incredibly careful when he answers certain questions and repeats the exact same phrases which if you parse them carefully you find he doesn’t quite seem to be answering the question yet gives the impression he was answering it…

Yeah, I bet Hitchens really felt slapped because some crook evaded his questions and tried to attack Hitchens to deflect the inquiry into his crooked dealings......

Then again, this is the same thing Galloway did before the subcommittee. He basically grandstanded and repeated moveon.org talking points.

And what was he there for? To answer questions about oil-for-food.

Powerline blog would never resort to a ad hominem attack!

I hadn't considered him a hero. But upon thinking it over, I'd consider it a great honor to have such entertaining politicians filling DC. In fact, I'd prefer it, considering the state our current dull politicians have put us in.

After all, what other politician has the balls to say something like this regarding dealings with US govt.

"I did a bit of sanction busting," he said, brandishing a cigar. "I smoked a Havana cigar just like this one. I smoked it inside the Capitol building, I even blew the smoke at the White House."

So diplomacy, along with the Koran, gets flushed down the toilet. Nobody is worse for the wear, and we can all get a good kick out of it.

Hitchens reaction seemed to indicate he felt slapped. I would have expected from him a much less deflated response.

Crooked dealings or not, nothing newsworthy would have happened had it not been for Galloway's dramatic performance. I want an encore!
