The Hague, Netherlands (CNN) -- The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court on Monday requested arrest warrants for Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, his son and his brother-in-law, saying there is evidence Gadhafi has committed crimes against humanity in his efforts to maintain hold over the country in a months-long battle.

Luis Moreno-Ocampo said his office "gathered direct evidence about orders issued by Moammar Gadhafi himself, direct evidence of Saif al-Islam (Gadhafi) organizing the recruitment of mercenaries and direct evidence of the participation of (Abdullah) al-Sanussi in the attacks against demonstrators." Al-Sanussi, the brother-in-law, is Gadhafi's head of intelligence and chief enforcer.

"The evidence shows that civilians were attacked in their homes; demonstrations were repressed using live ammunition; heavy artillery was used against participants in funeral processions, and snipers placed to kill those leaving the mosques after the prayers," Moreno-Ocampo said.

I was somewhat surprised by the apparent absence of a thread on the topic of Gadhafi & co.'s arrest warrants by the I.C.C.

Well, here it is, for what it's worth. Yeah, I know it's not Bush and Cheney, but that's no reason to resign from the human race. There are far better reasons to resign from the human race.

Heres hoping Ghadaffi and his mob get severly punished for the killing of the protestors in the early days of this mess.

I hope they go and get him and put him on trial.

Facing the ICC is likely Qaddafi's best hope for long-term survival.

I do wish the ICC would change thier name as I can't do anything but think of the International Cricket Council....then an image of Gadaffi pops into my head in cricket gear defending charges of ball tampering.

Only took you four days. Is that a personal best at reading time?

1. You appear to be having some kind of episode.

2. Your posts are not high on my list of 'must reads'. For self-evident reasons.

Oh My God! :sdl:

I know this will sound horribly naive, but ... I seem to have missed the part where it was proven that actually happened as reported; people protest, police shoot and massacre. I hear things like this reported in Twitter twits in Libya:
"Abdallah (caller from benghazi) they are killing us, they just killed 6, they have swords and knifes "

"Abdallah: they are killing everybody, i am running now, they have released people from the prisons"

"Abdallah: yes there are pro gaddafi protests: but they are not Libyan, they are Africans they are killing everybody"

"As libyans we expected this from #gaddafi, recruiting protesters to fight us from Africa namely Chad #Libya #Feb17 he warned us about this"

"#Qaddafi has threatened to flatten #Benghazi and rebuild it, and place in it African Migrants"

That's Benghazi, Feb 16. By the 18th, black-skinned gov't troops were being lynched by the dozen in Benghazi, al Baida, and Dernah, for being "African mercenaries."

But when you watch the actual videos, most of them are closer to this, Zintan, Feb 16:

Protesters are setting fire to a police station, and all the police inside do, at this point, is go up on the roof and signal for rescue. They have guns, but don't shoot them, despite the attack.

The Libyan government says this was more the nature of it - violent attacks against security forces, with the goal of violent takeover, and sometimes they fired back. Hundreds were killed, as the rebels reported, but it was a total from both sides, says the government and, as far as I can see, the evidence (although not enough solid info exists to be sure either way).

I just don't see where people get off being sure everything the government says is a lie and everything said by the attackers in this war (our leaders) is all true.

I've earned some ridicule saying this and showing my lack of group-hate lynch-mob mentality, so feel free to lay it on about how blind I am to the obvious villainy that warrants any and all punishment available, plus derision and dehumanization along the way, and it's everyone's duty to contribute to this last part, at least.

Nothing? Did my pre-emption work?

To follow up on Mr. Ibrahim's statements, here is a new video out of Tripoli that's well worth watching:

You need to watch the news. It helps with situations like this when you rely on nonsense CT crap after that fact.
