There's a swell article in the Chicago Reader that just came out, on David Hatcher Childress, a self-styled "rogue achaeologist" and prolific publisher of "fringey" (his words) books, including CTs, UFOS, and secret societies. Titles include "The Bible's Awesome Number Code," and "Remote Viewing Secrets" (not secret anymore I reckon). He's shooting a bigfoot mockumentary this fall.

Shameless plug: I shot the photographs that accompany the story.

This is free to view now (without a sub I believe), but may not be in a week or two.

Great post and link, Jimtron. I've been interested in Childress since I came across a copy of his book on Tesla and was curious about his personal background. The article makes him sound like a person with genuine energy and talent who might be making real contributions to science if he'd stuck with his schooling.
Most of of the Tesla book is just reprints of Tesla's patents and some ephemera, but the last couple of chapters are filled with the wildest speculations by Childress, often couched in language that begins "It is believe that...". I'm paraphrasing here, but Childress relates tales that have Tesla and Marconi (good buddies that they were) working together after their supposed deaths in a hollow volcano in South America. There, they construct 'discoid' aircraft in which they travel to Mars to visit the Pyramid and the Face. I kid you not. I've also read his book on Einstein and the unified field. About the closest that book gets to science is that there's a picture of Einstein on the cover and Einstein was in fact a scientist. When I visit Barnes and Nobel bookstores, I make a point of reshelving any Childress or Jerry Smith books that I find from the science section into the metaphysics section.
