there was a Documentary about Islam in Switzerland and they showed some Hate preacher's.

in one case they were told that an imman said,

Non belivers are less worth than animals, even animals accept Allah and serve him.

Now atleast 2 parties want take the guy to court for what he said.

sofar i have heard noone saying that if freedom of speech.

i wonder how you see that.
i mean it is not a callup to violence. it is total nonsence and i feel a bit offended, but should we punish him for saying it (if he did, sofar its hearsay) or should we confront him and debate his garbage?

I'm unfamiliar with the relevant tenants of Swiss law in respect of this issue, however in the UK he would only be liable for prosecution if he his speech had clearly been intended to incite religious or ethnic violence.

I'd love to know how animals know and accept Allah or indeed any other deity.

im not sure how our lawsystem will rate it.
my question is more, is it ok to bannn something like that, or should that actually be protected under freedom of speech.

propably in switzerland they will try to use the anti racism laws. But is that OK?

Given the present islamophobia in Switzerland, the UDC party will certainly ask for this imam to be prosecuted and/or expelled from the country * on the ground of "anti-Swiss/Christian racism", all the while protesting that their usual racist propaganda falls under the right to free speech ...

* and that no further mosque be built, plus the banning of any "muslim" clothing.

sad but propably true. and still, its nothing more than hearsay atm, the reporter said she heard that imman said that, and SVP and SP are now screaming fault, and puch their racist propaganda even further, sad sad sad...

I would say that yes this should be protected speech. As long as we can publicly hold horrible opinions of one another regardless of rank, class, achievement ect ect ect then I feel Free Speech is safe. If it falls into the area that holding such opinions publicly is not acceptable to the law then Free Speech is too tightly restricted.

If they want to talk like that then they shouldnt get their knickers in a twist when other people talk about them like that.

Unfortunately they do and tend to get a bit riotous about it all.

I am for hate speech laws for preventing violence, intimidation or public disorder but this is not hate speech IMO.

Agreed.

The irony is what he'd say if we spoke about the Prophet in similar terms...

Like no further Christian churches will be built in Saudi Arabia.

It is a callup to violence against non-Muslims.

I would say the situation in Saudi Arabia is currently more despicable. Not even a close comparison. Which does not excuse such actions in Switzerland. Thankfully I think criticisms will be taken much more seriously in Switzerland than in Saudia Arabia and that ultimately Switzerland will not follow Saudia Arabia's example.

In the USA, this would probably be free speech, as disgusting as it is -- the issue being whether the sermon is likely to lead to immediate violence that would otherwise not occur. Probably not, from the description in this thread.

But I don't see how expressing disgust and rage at this imam's claims is "Islamophobia". It's expressing fear and loathing of him, rather understandably, not of Islam or Muslims in general.
