I'm wondering if anyone has heard of this guy, it seems he's been around a long time, and is soon to unveil a new source of energy. I've checked his website, but it's not much more than simply a title page.

I'm particularily interested in the science behind this quote from the site:
"It pulls energy from somewhere, but that somewhere doesn't require a meter"
what on earth does THAT mean??

I've heard of him, and Joseph Newmann's "zero point energy" device. I'm inclined to think they're both fooling themselves, but I'd love to be wrong.

I'd like to see cold fusion come to market too.

We're going to need something to take the place of fossil fuels this century, or get used to a more spare lifestyle.
 
I gather from a scan of the web page that he will selling his device to us REAL SOON NOW -- as he has been promising for at least 15 years.

Probably just needs a little more adjustment.

The meter he is talking about is the meter on your electrical supply box that you have to pay for, hence "free" energy.
 
Somebody doesn't understand how UL certification works:

"UL certification won't be an issue since that will be covered by the already-certified generator that they hook up to their motor. "

The entire device needs to be UL certified, even if components are certified.

Yeah, that's a common problem for normal people trying to read Patents. Lucky for you....

That Patent has only 4 claims...and only one independent claim. It is the claims that define, legally, what he has actually patented. Let's look at the only independent claim:

1. In a d.c. motor, energizable by a d.c. electrical source having,

a cylindrical stator with field magnets;
a rotor;
armature coils;
a commutator connected to said rotor for switching a d.c. source to each armature coil in timed synchronism with the rotation of said rotor, said commutator having a cylindrical contact surface comprised of a plurality of insulatively separated segments, each segment electrically connected to an armature coil;
a plurality of fixed d.c. conductive brushes in conductive contact with said contact surface;
the improvement comprising a plurality of slots extending partially in a radial direction in said contact surface of each segment.

This is a style of claiming known as a "Jepson Claim". To see what he's actually claiming as his invention, you can edit it down to the essential bits, by deleting everything between "In a d.c. motor," and "The improvement comprising...", to get:

...

Which should tell you everything you need to know about how serious that patent is.

Oh, except, how exactly do you keep your "patent portfolio information" private, when patents, by their very design, are public documents? And while we're at it, what the **** is a "renewed" patent? I don't think even the USPTO has such a beast.

Long?

Look up "John Searl" and his "SEG" and "IGV" if you want a real laugh. His device not only creates free energy, it also cleans the air, heals people, can fly to space, etc. And of course it is always "available real soon". You won't get more crackpottery than that.

That...

1. This person doesn't understand a lick about basic physics, and

2. they are most likely deluded.
 
Wonderful! I loved that part in the video where the dude spins the table while he keeps it on the same floor spot. He could've done it better.

The whole thing made me remember a teacher of mine, almost 30 years ago. He told us that, in another school, he had kept in his office a strange discharge lamp plugged just to an electrical wire tacked to the ceiling and forming a strange shaped loop circuit with the lamp. He said to his students there that he had find the strange drawing being used in some exotic culture as a symbol of divine energy and that he had managed to channel that energy into electricity. He then challenged the students to investigate and ask him or whoever belonging the faculty all the science needed to prove him wrong and a cheater. The students checked the wiring for hidden sources of power, but they only achieved the lamp turned off -the teacher would asked them to leave the office and some minutes later the lamp would be on again. The students left no stone unturned and during some time they learnt a lot without proving any scam.

Until someone noticed some length repeated in the wire and remember that the big antenna some 200m away was a 100KW TV one...
