FORT MYERS BEACH — The town council of Fort Myers Beach fired Town Manager Scott Janke during an emergency Tuesday night meeting “without cause” after it learned his wife is a porn star.

According to the publication Adult Industry News, Anabela Mota Janke is also Jazella Moore, star of adult flicks and Web sites.

Council member Jo List said her vote, part of a unanimous vote to terminate the manager from his $100,000 job, is not a judgment of Scott Janke or his wife’s lifestyle.
...
Council members repeated Wednesday that it was not their feelings about what Anabela Janke does for a living that got her husband fired.

“The town is focusing on many changes,” Councilman Tom Babcock said. “We really do not need to disrupt that focus.”

ETA: Janke thinks his wife was outed because a picture of her sitting next to family values Republican Connie Mack, Florida Congressman, at a fundraiser was featured on the news. We'll see what Macks' statement is on this.

First paragraph. The council learned his wife was an adult film star and as a result fired him.

To be fair (to me) it doesn't say 'as a result'. It says 'after it learned'.
If my dog caught a rabbit after the sun came up, that doesn't necessarily mean it caught the rabbit because the sun came up, although there could well be a causal relationship.
It just ain't (always) necessarily so.

True, and the council member quotes don't come right out and say it, but they suggest it pretty loudly. More or less they seem to be saying "I don't have a problem with what she does for a living, I'm not a prude, it's just we can't afford to have something like this distract from important town matters right now".

My .02 is that this is completely ridiculous. I understand, it's politics, but it really seems like a ******** reason to get rid of somebody. By all accounts, he's been doing a bang-up job so far.

I wonder if the town would complain if they had a thriving adult entertainment industry, from which sales tax revenue paid for roads and infrastructure improvements? Hell, probably.

I thought town councils were run by adults. Is this guy's professionalism or authority going to be lessened because people can purchase movies of her doing things that consenting adults do? And who put two and two together and dropped the dime on him anyway?!? That guy really needs a kick in the nads.

Are you playing semantics?

We'll it's worth pointing out you selectively picked one article to comment on and ignored the other (which uses the words "because his wife is adult film star").

The mayor said: "It was not his job performance. We all liked Scott ... He's a good guy." While Janke, the fired manager, said: "We have done nothing to be embarrassed about. We've done nothing wrong."

So judging from the evidence if he wasn't fired for his performance, but was fired, as you say, after they learned about the adult flims-- please explain some reasons he was fired (hopefully based on the council's comments).

It is a strange situation indeed. I just couldn't force myself to read the whole article but the vagueness of many of the quotes are a bit odd. What strikes me is the quote
[Council member Jo List said her vote, part of a unanimous vote to terminate the manager from his $100,000 job, is not a judgment of Scott Janke or his wife’s lifestyle.

“My vote was a vote on the credibility and livelihood of our town,” she said.]

It sounds to me like that is the reason they fired him. Now they are risking hiring someone who may not do as good of a job as they admitted that Scott Janke was doing good. Its no wonder that people like this can't convince kids to stay off drugs and to lead a moral (IMO moral is helping your fellow man and not causing them harm) life.

Basically what I'm saying is its because of situations like this that some kids don't respect adults. And the funny thing is that now from my POV they have lost credibility. Haha, would this count as an accurate example of irony?

I did. She's nicely constructed. Would make a good trophy wife for a politician as long as they didn't know about her "other" career.

Gads. Are there any intelligent adults in civil government? YMMV

The plus of this is that she'll likely gain new fans, and maybe make more money because of this. No bad publicity and all that.

They should have kept this guy on, because with a porn star wife, there's really not many scandalous affairs he could have.

I think you are on to something!

How about nymphomaniac porn star wifes for all (straight male) politicians? This should keep then so busy that they won't get into trouble . . . and will leave us alone. :duck:

We can afford to pay this guy off with $100,000 or so, take a risk on a law suit, take a hit on our rep as a good place to be employed as a town mamnager (they don't grow on trees, even in Florida), break in a temporary second while we search for another CEO/manager to break in separately and set town business back, what, maybe three-six months, but we can't afford to be the butt of a few strained, stale jokes? I'd prefer the sex scandal reason, myself, at least that is good, if ribald, PR.

Bingo.

Dear people of Florida:

Porn stars are people too, ya know.

Yours in an attempt to put the E into Florida ...
