(ok, so CANCAN was made up, but you get the idea ;))
As concerned citizens, we are joining together to raise funds to file an initiative in California to enact a "9/11 Truth Commission law." Once passed, this new commission untainted by politics and with subpoena powers to investigate 9/11 and its aftermath, the Afghan and Iraqi wars and the global War on Terror generally. Once the initiative process is under way in California, identical initiative measures will be filed in other initiative-enabled states such as Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, Ohio Oregon, Vermont, Washington, and others. These numerous filings will make the need for a new investigation of 9/11 a political issue in the presidential and congressional elections of November 2012.

I like how wide the scope is - will they ever be able to get to the bottom of such a huge investigation? Or will the settle for the evergreen 'INSIDE JOB!!!!111' and call it at that?

Yes, it reminds me of how politicians attach their pork to bills they think will pass for other reasons, just to get their pork.

a new 9/11 truth commission is the pork of these truthers.

I wonder what happens to the money that is raised? Who is answerable for how it is spent? It may be only a few thousand dollars worth, but still...

One thing I've never understood....the "with subpoena power" aspect of the investigation truthers are always calling for. I'm no legal expert, but I thought only the judiciary had the power to issue subpoenas. I don't understand how an independent commission be given such a power without seriously revising the whole legal system.

What gets me about the "subpoena" issue is this...

If the attacks were orchestrated by elements of the USG, what makes anyone (truther or otherwise) think that the evildoers are going to suddenly confess if a SUBPOENA is suddenly used.

Also, if in answer to that the truthers try to make the argument that it would make the underlings talk, then my response is...

So underlings, who you are saying would obviously have been aware of the cover up, would sit on the deaths of 3000 fellow americans unless a magical SUBPOENA was issued to MAKE THEM TALK???

It just doesn't fly.

I see two possibilities:

  1. The truthers pushing for this initiative, much like FOTL, see the legal system as some sort of magical ritual capable of extracting the truth from even the most vile of individuals.
  2. These truthers believe they already have all the evidence they need, so their plan is to get the alleged perpetrators on the stand and then "hang" them for perjury. I believe this is what is called a "kangaroo court".

The exact same line of reasoning I tend to use, whenever people moan about Bush & others not going under oath. If they were really so wicked and evil, why would taking an oath suddenly be enough to make them spill the beans? :rolleyes:

It's NYCCAN West - All the local truthers are dusting off their black shirts. :nope:

Former Senator Mike Gravel:

He supported and worked on the NYCCAN 2009 ballot initiative in New York City that would have established a local commission to conduct an impartial, evidence-driven investigation into the events of September 11, 2001. 80,000 New Yorkers signed the petition, far exceeding the requirement for the proposed City Charter amendment to be presented to the voters on the November ballot. However, the City of New York refused to place it on the ballot citing legal insufficiencies :rolleyes: in the petition, and the State Supreme Court ruled in the City’s favor.

And one grand conspiracy to rule them all.

(I think the BCCI scandal is unappreciated as a key to much of what has happened in the last 30 years. The author of the book linked to below seems to agree with me.)

Here is a partial list of the economic and political scandals throughout the 1980s and early ’90s:
  • The Savings & Loan scandal;
  • Stock market manipulation and money laundering;
  • Iran-Contra Affair;
  • The October Surprise and Iran hostage crisis;
  • Iraqgate-BNL and the rise and funding of Saddam Hussein;
  • Pakistan’s nuclear program and the selling of bomb-making technology to Libya, Iran and North Korea;
  • The rise and funding of the Afghan Mujahideen (founding and funding of the Taliban and Osama bin Laden’s Al Qaeda network);
  • Illegal weapon sales to Iran and Saudi Arabia;
  • The proliferation of Middle Eastern terrorism;
  • The international drug trade run by people like Manuel Noriega and Pablo Escobar.

Perhaps, but logic would dictate that if you have "all the evidence you need", then why go for the lesser charge of perjury? Treason and mass murder would probably do the trick on its own.

a 9-11 resolution....in California?

fat chance.

another resounding failure for 9-11 Twoof. its fun to watch, and easy to dance to.

:)

It is an interesting scheme to attach pork to an initiative measure.

If the head of the commission and a good number of the members are not "scientists" with "credentials" that the twoofers recognize, they will be shrieking that the program had been subverted and perverted and swept under the rug.

DRG, S. Jones and little Dickie Gage stand to make millions off the public dole if this passes.
