Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.
I have friends who work in intelligence, specifically with the RC-135V. Here's the long explanation:
That blimp/surveillance balloon's camera and sensors are all classified secret. This means only specific people can handle the equipment, and view the footage, information, or data obtained by the blimp/platform. The that material collected by the platform is automatically classified as secret, or top secret. This means that it is not to be copied, shared, discussed, or in any way communicated to the public without a sanitation process, and review.
When you look at video released by CENTCOM of air strikes you'll see areas of the screen are blacked out, or the image cropped to block coded data, and GPS information from view. Often the videos are not released for weeks or months after the events because the mission is ongoing, and the enemy can learn from these videos, and adjust tactics.
The other problem is revealing capabilities to the world makes intelligence gathering more difficult. This is why this kind of footage must be handled via the process. And it underlines why they don't allow cell phones inside the SCIF, CIA,NSA, NRO, or any sensitive government building.
This statement is fun because the lack of comment suggests someone is about to be arrested, and go to prison for recording the footage with their phone, and distributing it to the public. Since only a select group of people are allowed to view this footage, tracking the culprit down is just a matter of time.
The not-so-fun aspect of this 17 minute video is the footage reveals a detailed layout of US base inside Iraq exactly as Iran has begun targeting these bases for missile attacks.
It's a shame really that "the military does not make public comment on matters of operational significance" is so easily perceived as suspicious.
The military shouldn't be making public comments on matters of operational significance. It would be stupid if they did. Why can't more people understand that?
