First live truther

Well, I came upon my first live truther the other day. Was playing taxi driver for son and another boy, who happens to be 14, and I don't even know how the subject came up, but I suddenly realized HE was calmly going on about how explosions had gone off exactly 5 floors below where the first plane hit the tower just before the plane hit.

How this was suspicious and an indication that explosives were planted in the center section of the tower, which caused it to implode rather than explode, and prevented it from falling over, blah, blah, blah. How this (the timing) was a mistake in the plan which tipped people off about it being suspicious.

This kid is a really odd duck, and not one I would want to engage, so I clenched my teeth and restrained myself to mentioning that the buildings would not have fallen over, to which he (14 remember!) responded that they would have if they were more structurally sound on one side than on the other! :boggled:

Son later grinned and mentioned that he thought I would rip the kid to shreds over his conspiracy theories.

And I would have asked if the towers came down of their own free will. Nothing like out wooing the wooish. The kid's response might have been really interesting. :duck:

Years ago my mildly autistic Nephew said something similar and I told him that I am a Professional Mech Eng (which I am) and that those tales were just ignorant or crazy and that he needed to be a lot more careful in what he believes from the internet. Seems to have worked as I never heard him go on about it again.

That what really annoys me about the "professional" truthers. They are abusing those who lack the mental abilities to see through their fantasy.
It stopped being even remotely funny when the guy opened fire at the Pentagon Subway.

ETA you should've told him that they were vaporized by DEW. And then said (mock shock) planes? There were no planes? Those were all holograms and video tricks! C'mon kid, get with the program.

It's so 14, isn't it? He was just calmly going on about this like it was nothing. Somehow, I at least respect the guys from AlQueda who get worked up enough over this crap to actually take some kind of action. How pathetic is that?

As long as YOUR son is smart enough to see through the woo, I would call it a day.

It's not your job to teach other kids the ability to think for themselves.

Hell at 14 I was building model pyramids and putting half eaten apples under them to test out the "amazing pyramid power."
