I am running into a problem with my (linux) firefox.

My bookmarks have profilated far past the point where they fill more than a screenheight.
I have managed to place some of them in a "subdirectory" which is unfortunately at the bottom of my screen and takes a lot of scrolling to get to.

Is there any way to get more of that >> menu at the top right of the firefox panel, and perhaps expand it to more than just 8 items?

Try clicking on Bookmarks and then on Organize Bookmarks. This (on my version) gives you a window that lets you do all sorts of things with your bookmarks - including moving them in the list.

YMMY & etc.

Well, yes it does let me get more that 8 links on the >> menu, and a subdirectory.

That would be a ok solution, there does not appear to be a way to get more >>'s on the panel.

Thanks.:)

I may be able to help a little bit more but you'll have to define what you mean by "panel". ;)

You can also just right click on any link in the toolbar, go to properties and change the name. The shorter it is the less space it takes up. Sometimes links will have extra text that makes them bigger. For example a link might be "Howtogeek.com - The blah blah blah...". If you just edit it to "Howtogeek" or "HTG" or whatever you want it will take up less space on the bar.

I am refering to the lowest line of the browser. It would be great if one could get more of those >> at the right side.
Then I could have a headline for each menu item instead of just 7 links of which one is expandable to a menu.

Ok, I am not sure what is called panels and what are toolbars. :o

Ah. Ha. Different strokes for different folks! ;)

I don't use the Bookmark Toolbar. I only use the dropdown list you get by clicking on the Bookmarks menu entry at the very top of the screen.

You might try Customize you get by click on a blank space on that line. It seems you can create more toolbars and possibly populate them with additional bookmarks.

I think a panel is a big thing and toolbar is a thin horizontal thing. But beyond that . . . ;)

What you can do is shorten down the names of your bookmarks. That way you can fit more into the bookmarks toolbar.

Another thing is that you can have folders in your bookmarks toolbar; ideally with short names of course. For instance you could create a folder called "Ubuntu" and put the bookmarks for "Ubuntu Forums" and "Ubuntu Linux Resou..." (and similar) into it. You could create one for the forums that you visit, like Jref, prisonplanet, etc.

In short you could turn your bookmarks toolbar into a bookmarks menubar.
