New version of firefox (1.5) coming out on Tuesday. Any beta testers got a sneak preview of it? What can we expect?

I downloaded a beta version of it. The biggest change I saw was that when installing extensions, you no longer have to restart the browser for them to work. I didn't actually browse to much, I just wanted it while writing an extension, exactly because of the no restart thing.

JREF forced me to

I was getting error messages while trying to post to this forum using Firefox1.0 (Saying my domain needed to be added to the whitelist by the JREF admin --- whatever that means)

So, I deleted Firefox and am now trying to install the upgrade, let's see if that works.

(This is being posted without a problem using Explorer)

ETA --- yep, that solved the issue, smooth as silk -- fast, quick and speedy.
Pop-up blocker functions fine, and all my bookmarks remained intact (although I did an uninstall of the previous version). Nice.

webfusion, I got that same error today on IE when I put in the wrong password at school.

It's a problem I ca';t do much about - it's about the route your taking when you try to log in.

What happens is if your browser goes to the temp 206.x.x. and you login from that page, vBulletin thinks you are trying to log in from another site (e.g. not forums.randi.org) even though they are in fact the same address. vBulletin has a feature that lets you do this BUT what I found out yesterday it only works with domain names in the format of this.domain.org, it won't accept a numeric IP as a referring site! (If the temp address had been something like www.randi.org/forumlive it would work.)

If this occurs again make sure you are trying to log-in on a page that the address is showing as http://www.internationalskeptics.com/forums/ and that should solve the problem.

I've been singing the praises of Firefox for many, many moons now, but I gotta say I'm unimpressed with version 1.5

I downloaded and installed it yesterday, and though the initial installation went without a hitch, (I didn't lose any bookmarks), the theme I was using no longer works properly, and I can't find a similar one that I like.

Original theme was 'Saferfox Xpanded' and I loved the look of it. Latest version of this theme is similar, but my Bookmarks Toolbar Folder now takes two mouse-clicks to open instead of one. (and I lost the little icons that were associated with the individual websites)

Tried Acid Burn, and loved the presentation, until I tried to open Options. I only see three buttons towards the bottom of the screen, and no way to change any of the options. So, can't stick with Acid Burn.

Finally settled on ifox, which I find a bit similar to the Saferfox Xpanded, but again I have lost the little icons that went with the individual bookmarks.

Oh, and I really don't like the 'hip' way they have of displaying the information in Options now. It used to be a pretty simple affair, click on the item on the left and it opens the applicable menu to the right. Now, it's structured horizontally instead of vertically for the main tabs and seems more cluttered and confusing.

I'll stick with Firefox for now, but if something better comes along, I'm outta here!

Well if you don't know quality when you see it... :)

Actually I'm the same with FireFox, I have it installed even used it for quite a time but nope it just isn't quite right for me.

Well, I just opened the same JREF pages in both Firefox and Opera. The Opera page won't fit across the screen properly (cuts off the content on the right hand side yet has no scroll bar for me to use), and only completely shows the first three topic threads. The Firefox page not only fits on the screen properly, it shows the first four topic threads completely. Probably has something to do with the settings in Opera, but I really have no desire to jump under the hood.

The installation of FF 1.5 decided I didn't need my search plugins anymore, erased them, and gave me back the crappy ones I had previously erased. I've been trying all day to readd my search plugins but can't, first because their database was overloaded and giving errors, and now I can't even get to their site.

Some extensions are incompatable with 1.5 . At least for me, Firefox kept everything that still worked and got rid of the rest. It might be a while before the extension developers catch up.

Does the "cookies are delicious delicacies" extension still work?
