So says Nick Fletcher (wiki) a UKian Conservative politician. At least until the response forced a desperate back-peddling where he contradicted his earlier assertions and said he "in no way linked Dr Who [sic] being a female to crime being committed by men".

Fletcher was speaking at a debate about international men’s day, though he'd first made these claims (including wrt Doctor Who) in the House of Commond about eighteen months ago. He's also prone to try and underplay the concept of toxic masculinity and frequently denies the existence of male privilege.
A bit of a misogynistic idiot in fact.

We know for certain of 24 different incarnations of the Dr (of course they may have had many more) of which we know 3 have been female...

That aside we first meet the Dr as an illegal alien immigrant who stole one of the most valuable objects in the universe. One wouldn't have thought a Tory politician would consider that a good role model.

My memory may have degraded over time, and the earliest Doctor I can remember is Jon Pertwee so I cannot talk about the entire history of Dr Who, but I'm pretty sure that young men committing crimes didn't suddenly start when Jody Whittaker took over the role of The Doctor - or presumably a few months after that point for the rot to take hold.

What exactly did he say, in context? All I see in the OP is a bit of waffle with no cites (the wiki link is trivial and useless).

https://www.theguardian.com/politic...-casting-women-risks-driving-boys-to-crime-mp

Leading a Westminster Hall debate about international men’s day, Nick Fletcher said discussions about women’s safety, such as after the murder of Sarah Everard, risked achieving nothing because of a focus on the idea of toxic masculinity.

Citing statistics showing poor male outcomes in areas such as school attainment, employment, suicide and rough sleeping, the Don Valley MP said men and boys needed better role models, including male teachers.

In culture, Fletcher argued, “there seems to be a call from a tiny yet very vocal minority that every male character or good role model must have a female replacement. One only needs to consider the discussions about who will next play James Bond to see that. And it is not just James Bond: in recent years we have seen Doctor Who, the Ghostbusters, Luke Skywalker and The Equalizer all replaced by women, and men are left with the Krays and Tommy Shelby [a character in the BBC drama Peaky Blinders].”

He continued: “Is it any wonder that so many young men are committing crimes? Such programmes make crime look cool.”

Everywhere, not least within the cultural sphere, there seems to be a call from a tiny yet very vocal minority that every male character or good role model must have a female replacement. One only needs to consider the discussions about who will next play the James Bond to see that. And it is not just James Bond. In recent years, we have seen Dr Who, the Ghostbusters, Luke Skywalker and The Equalizer all replaced by women, and men are left with the Krays and Tommy Shelby. Is it any wonder that so many young men are committing crimes? Such programmes make crime look cool. Trust me, a lifetime in prison is not cool, and neither is living with the memory of a stabbed son or daughter.

He seems to have a very odd concept of the word 'replaced', and also strange ideas about good role models. I mauy be speaking out of turn, but James Bond and 'The Equalizer' are not what I would consider good role models.

Also, I haven't kept up with the latest movies, but Luke Skywalker replaced by a woman?

Not exactly, but the recent trilogy was fronted by a a bit of a Mary-Sue, Luke Skywalker was relegated to a grumpy old man hiding away from his problems and the Mary-Sue eventually even took his name. The character was quite the dumpster fire but for reasons other than her gender.

To borrow from a BTL comment under Marina Hyde's piece on Teh Graun: thank someone (Chibnall?) for Jodie Whittaker becoming Dr Who and putting an end to those waves of female crime...

Yeah. Ok. That explains my urge to riot and burn the moment I see a female lead.
I was wondering.

Oh well, at least they are confined to an island and no longer interfering in European politics, so small blessings I guess.

Though I pity you poor brits who are increasingly governed by clowns.

There's rather a nice, and snarky, piece by Marina Hyde, harking back to Ye Olde Days when the dumbest Tory MP was Archie Hamilton, the man who was worried a chimp might beat him in an intelligence test.
Of course Panbanisha was a rather intelligent creature, something that can't be said of Fletcher or Hamilton....

Okay, that's kind of weird. I mean, I get where the violent video games argument comes from sort of but yeah, not tracking the female Doctor thing.

Now I want the next Doctor Who to be a chimp. It would have the unpredicability of Tom Baker combined with the satorial hygiene of Patrick Troughton. And it would be far, far more effective at "Venusian karate" than Jon Pertwee. It wouldn't even need a sonic screwdriver, just a hearty diet would produce its very own magical science weapon when needed. Also it could eat people's faces, which is something no previous Doctor has thought to try as conflict resolution.

Faces or faeces?

Barging into other peoples' countries and taking their valuables is perfectly in tune with the finest traditions of Great Britain.

"You see, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, it was really the lady's fault that I raped her. She dressed just too sexily. I totally couldn't control myself."

That is a view religious in origin. Women are mere chattel.

I have never understood it nor the loons who dance through hoops to defend it.

That might be one interpretation. Another is that certain men find it easier to blame their own lack of self-control on the objects of their lust. So the sin attaches to those alluring harlots, and not to the innocent victim of the lustful behavior they make him do. The ability to shift blame is what enables people to imagine they're good from the point of view of their own religions which outright condemn their actions.
