Heres a summary of their election coverage:
we're winning!
exit polls not matching results, fraud at polls!
holy ◊◊◊◊, we're losing!
faux news called ohio!
we will win ohio!
we might have lost ohio!
we will fight in ohio, mobilize!
kerry conceded ohio!
crap we lost!

What a roller coaster ride. The funny thing is they had to change their forums around because of all the vitriolic whining and blaming.

Really corplinx.

Well, you might want to actually take a look at what was posted on the front page not too long ago:

This totally sucks. But we're going to pull through it together.

I honestly never expected that I would be posting this. Even when the campaign was going terribly, I was somehow able to remain optimistic that the American people would do the right thing. I couldn't let myself feel any other way; the alternative was just too depressing to imagine. But It looks like my faith in the wisdom of the American people was misplaced this time.

But I still have faith in the members of DU. This is an amazing group of people. You have been a great source of sanity and support during the last four years. This election loss heralds the beginning of a new era on DU. People are angry and depressed, and rightly so. I fear that things might get pretty ugly on this discussion forum for a while, but I remain confident that we will eventually pull through this, just like we always do.

This is a pretty diverse group of people, and it's clear that people are going to deal with this election defeat in different ways. Some members are going to come to DU looking for a shoulder to cry on. Others are going to come here looking for a fight. Still others may have completely different feelings entirely. We believe that it is understandible and healthy for people to feel angry or sad or whatever. We do not think it is possible for us to force people to deny their feelings right now, and we're not even going to try (except in the most extreme cases). However, it is clear that certain types of emotions do no mix well on a busy message board like this one. We have decided that the only feasible solution is to enforce a segregation between the people who want a shoulder to cry on, and the people who want an ass to kick.

With this in mind, the two General Discussion forums have been re-named. The "General Discussion: Help and Support" forum is for those people who are looking for help and support. If you feel sad, or if you are the type of person who thinks that we're all in this together, then that is the forum for you. But if you are feeling very angry about the election, or if you are feeling like pointing fingers and placing blame, you should post in the other GD forum, the "General Discussion: Fighting and Acrimony" forum.

We know that it is not possible to make everyone happy, but we hope that this rough split will provide people with a choice so you can decide what type of message board experience that you need right now. All you have to do is decide which forum to post your topic in. I think everyone here is capable of making that choice.

Please be aware that the moderators will still be enforcing the message board rules, including the rules against personal attacks and flame bait. We expect all of our members to continue to observe the message board rules. And we want to remind everyone that we are all still on the same side here. You may be angry, but remember that the people here are supposed to be your friends and allies.

And if you ever feel so angry that you want to disrupt or pick fights, or deliberately piss people off, I strongly advise that you turn off your computer and turn off the cable news and go do something else that will make you feel better. Nobody ever got banned from DU because they took a break.

This sucks, but we will get through it. I love this place, and I have great faith in the members here to pull through this.

Hang in there.

I did read it, the coverage beneath it was what I was referring to. I'm not sure what your point is, this one guy is asking people to stop flaming each other on their forums because of the brouhaha.

I wanted to get on their forums to see what kind of conspiracy theories they were coming up with but the traffic is too high.

Same here.

I completely understand the sentiment for an audit of the votes. But the thing is, Bush, no matter how many times or how many ways it is skewed, won.

Instead of wasting time in denial, and asking how Bush could have gotten so many votes (when so many of his votes came pretty much from where they were supposed to), the Democrats would be better served by asking where *they* went wrong...like why in the face of record voter registration and increased turnout, the vaunted 'youth vote' fizzled, and significant numbers of minorities turned away from the Dems.

Yeah, they can cook up a bunch of mind control and voter fraud conspiracy theories to explain it, but if that is all they get out of this election, they will be depending on sheer luck to do better next time.

Admitting to flawed strategies might include assessing whether:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Michael Moore, and Carville et al. may have filled theaters and titillated the faithful, but they probably also helped to fill the polling places with motivated Republicans.

Taking it for granted that young liberal voters will actually show up and vote may have been an overly optimistic strategy.

Taking it for granted that minorities will always vote Democratic may have been an overly patronizing and shortsighted viewpoint.

Announcing at the convention that anyone not for the Democrats wasn't a real American may have had unintended consequences.

Outspending the Republicans, using personal fortunes and party war chests might not be enough to win the presidency.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I haven't spent a lot of time on this, but the little bit of channel surfing I have done, left me with the impression that the Democrats are more interested in slagging those who voted for Bush, than in figuring out what *they* did wrong.

By minorities, I guess you mean latinos. Black voters were a solid block.

Has anyone printed the numbers from the African American voters on the gay marriage issue? I'm guessing that the block wasn't so solidly Democratic there.

Yes, Hispanics voted for Republicans in record numbers, but African Americans are turning away from the Democrats in word and in deed...I suspect it is only a matter of time before they start turning away in numbers as well...and I also suspect that the Democrats won't have a clue as to why.

What did you think of the Mid South-Tribune editorial on that very issue?

Look at some of this from DU:

I think it is time to adopt the right wing whacko attitude on the second amendment! We need to arm ourselves, they have! It is time for us to start getting our own military weapons, and put them to use.

With the Assault Weapon Ban gone anyway, I am going out today to buy a rifle, probably an M16 or AK77, and a stockpile of at least two hundred bullets, and a banana clip.

We have nothing else. The high road has killed us in three elections in a ROW!

1. We need serious dirty tricks: undercover prostitutes with cameras in every Republican bedroom. Out EVERY gay Republican. Out every racist Republican. Drug setups. Deep undercover ops INSIDE the RNC and Bush camps.

2. As much as this is not "us", we need to cheat. We need to figure out how many votes they are going to steal and steal just as many to make it even. Hack the machines; dissapear paper ballots, whatever.

3. In states where we have Governors, we need to way underrepresent red areas with polling machines/places and saturate the blue ares.

4. We need to adopt the same voting disinformation tactics they do.

5. More. More. More.

There is no other way at this point. We have been F***ING MARGINALIZED. 10% of this country now has 90% of the power. Can't you understand? They control EVERYTHING. State. Federal. Congress. Courts. Corporations. EVERYF'INGTHING. So. with 50%+ of the population and 10% of the power, what can we do? We only have the choices above when it comes to elections. Or we can just stay naive and smile and try a little harder and convince ourselves we can win next time. But if you think we can muster more than we did THIS time -- your f***ing nuts.

What a bunch of morons.
