Fake Art on Display.

Liken it to an autograph. The value lies in its authenticity.

Devil may cry is art. God of War is pastiche.

I remember seeing a Nova episode on art forgery. They profiled a fellow who had "reformed" and was now doing "reproductions", identified as such to the buyer. The amount of work he put into each painting was remarkable, down to salvaging pieces of panel from period furniture...
Another artist showed how simple it was to reproduce charcoal and pencil drawings by using a projector... Of course, you had to have the original on hand.
Her reproductions (intended for commercial sale) looked exactly like the originals.

From an artistic point of view, you can debate endlessly about it.
But from a legal point of view, fakery is fraud, period.
