New unique animal, liger, born in Siberian zoo

A baby animal like that cannot be born in wild nature

Visitors of the zoo in Russia's Novosibirsk (Siberia) will soon have a unique opportunity to see a half-breed of the Bengal tiger and the African lion, the scientific director of the zoo, Olga Shilo said on Monday.

A female tiger of the mobile part of the Novosibirsk zoo gave birth to two kittens (a male and a female) five months ago. An African lion was the father of the two kittens. One of the animal babies was taken to Novosibirsk, and the other one stayed with the mother in the mobile zoo, Interfax reports.

No inter-species, eh?

Gee, golly...perhaps it was a miracle from God?

A mule would have done just as well.

Hmm... I see a post by CFLarsen and I think of mules.

But a hybrid is not an "intermediate form" in the sense of the evolution/creation argument, and so has nothing to say about creationism.

The fundies like ligers. They say it proves that all big cats are just different varieties of the same species, meaning that Noah only had to take two big cats aboard the ark, and similarly with other groups, thus explaining how you can fit all those animals into the Ark.

Tossers.

Both tigers and lions. :)

I know this is true since I've seen them before, but why did you use pravda as your source? Isn't that like the Weekly World News?

I could also have used a Danish one - would that have been better?

AAWWW da cute puddy tat!

Claus that Pravda link tried to set no fewer than seven cookies on my pc from four different sources. Maybe the Danish mirror would be better?

We have a Liger at our local zoo - it is absolutely HUGE!! Something to do with the tiger/lion cross which causes the hormone that surpresses the growth hormone to not be secreted. The Liger urinated (for distance mind you!) last year on my youngest daughter. It is cool looking (The liger that is, not the urine).

You think that a big cat peeing on your daughter looks cool? :wow:

What sort of sick mother are you? :D

ETA, damn, beaten by the edit!!!

There's also a video clip.

(to the left, there's a link "Side 9 pigen". Try that one, too... )

Mange tak!
:D

Is the Leopard in the picture wearing a Robin Hood style hat at a jaunty angle, or is it perhaps a snake coiled there ?

There are Lions, Tigers, Leopards, Panthers (which I thought were the same as Leopards) and a Bobcat but no Ocelots, what does God have against Ocelots ?

(snipped)

Tossers.

True enough. Especially since some mules do have functioning reproductive systems.

How about some more hybrids?

Or hey, how about non-hybrids who are freaky?

There are three lions and three water buffalo as well.

The painting depicts a scene after the Flood was over*, so no one in the painting got left behind.

* Please oh please oh please ask me how I know this.

OTOH, I only see one giraffe, one elk, one orangutan, one panda....

Of course, the rainbow is impossible. You would only see a rainbow like that, if the sun was directly behind you. Judging from the (lack of) shadows, the sun isn't.

Yeah, ok Elks, but where are Santas Reindear? And the insects, and the snakes! Minks! Not one mink in the picture! Also no platypus, this extraordinary animal.

"A liger? Napolean Dynamite's favorite animal?"

Edit: Uh... about the links on the right side? "Boy from Mars" "Russians have Already Conquered Mars"
