This event is open to the public, but press is especially welcome.
Please drop by if you are in the area. It will be taped, however. This could be interesting as the Center for Inquiry West is within walking distance of the Scientology PAC Base (also called Big Blue)...so "visitors" are expected.

If you have further interest, please google the names mentioned. Some have current books out or their stories online and on youtube.

Many attending will be leaving for the GOLD Base in Hemet for a little protest afterwards.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ex-Staff to Expose Abuse and Human Trafficking Within the Church of Scientology

Press Conference – February 12, 2010 10am – Center for Inquiry’s Steve Allen Theater

(Los Angeles, CA) Six former Scientology staff (members of the Sea Org, Scientology’s paramilitary force) will expose abusive conditions inside the church of Scientology, including exploitation, physical abuse, and forced abortions. This press conference coincides with the two-year anniversary of global protests against the church by the internet group Anonymous.

Speakers include:

• Marc Headley, author of Blown for Good. For 15 years Marc lived at Scientology’s International Base, where he worked 100-hour work weeks for less than 50 cents an hour, enduring mental and physical abuse. Marc made a dramatic escape from the heavily guarded compound in Hemet, California, and started a new life with his wife, who also escaped.

• Nancy Many, author of My Billion Year Contract. When she was five months pregnant, Nancy was sent to Scientology’s re-indoctrination labor camp, where she was forced to work ten hours a day, followed by five hours of study, while living in a garage. Nancy suffered a mental breakdown after relentless interrogations and confessions.

• Laura Decrescenzo was recruited into Scientology at the age of twelve. Married at sixteen, she became pregnant and was forced to abort her child; Scientology staff are not allowed to have children. In desperation, Laura swallowed bleach to get herself thrown out.

• Jeff Hawkins spent 35 years working for Scientology all over the world, including the top level at the International Base. Jeff left Scientology five years ago after suffering beatings by Scientology’s leader, David Miscavige.

• Will Fry was raised by scientologists, and attended Scientology boarding school while his parents worked for the church. As a teenager, Will joined the Sea Org, but immediately realized he wanted out; it took him almost three years. Afterwards the church billed him $12,000 for a so-called “freeloader debt.”

• Maureen Bolstad , at age 15, “got tricked into making a dumb mistake” and signed a contract to join Scientology staff. Maureen was promised an education and regular pay, but instead worked 18 hours a day, seven days a week, and developed health and emotional problems. She was allowed to leave after three years of being made to “confess her sins and evil intentions.”

• Mark Bunker (moderator) is an Emmy-winning journalist who has been covering Scientology since 1997. His website (xenutv.com) features video and commentary covering the controversial church.

The conference will include a Q&A session and individual interviews. The event is expected to be attended by Anonymous protesters.

It'd be nice to have this streamed online.

One person who will be attending said he will try to set up a Ustream, but I myself haven't set one up. If that fails though, the entire event will be filmed anyway.

I wanted to add that CFI West is letting the center be used as a venue for the press conference, but it is not sponsoring the event per se. The organizers actually looked for other venues, but ran into roadblocks when they mentioned the subject of the press conference. Many venues in Hollywood don't want to get on scientology's bad side. The CFI West doesn't have that fear.

First off...it was a great press conference. We had about all the major local media (except LA Times) present. There were more news cameras in the CFI Center than anyone can recall. Including 2 crews from Australia (and one crew from scientology's Freedom Magazine...who eventually left when hounded by one of the Australian crews hehe) And the presenters were moving. Several local channels played clips of it and Tommy Davis' response the same day.

The entire event was filmed, and according one that did it for the critics:
In an effort to get the material online again as soon as possible, I will within the next 48 hours re-broadcast the whole thing from tape to Ustream and make sure Ustream saves it so the whole thing is available online.

I will make audio available via MU. I had a direct feed from the house system.

I've clipped the whole thing into 14 less-than-10-minute segments for upload to YouTube. The clips have to be encoded, however, and doing that in HD takes time. I'll be able to encode a couple of them overnight each night over the coming days until it's all up. Again, the whole thing will be available on Ustream in SD in the meantime.

This was the ustream address, so maybw it will end up here:

I'm AMAZED that Tommy Davis is still a spokesmen for CO$. His handling of the BBC Panorama enquiry was so terrible, and put them is such a bad light, that I thought he would be fired for sure.

Putting people like that up front as the face of the CO$ is the best weapon against them ever!

Just finished watching, thanks for posting this! It's unbelievable...

Regardless of whether scientology is true or not, the leaders have to be brung to justice.

"whether scientology is true or not"? Sounds like you may be a candidate for Free_Zone_(Scientology)WP. ;)

PS. It is all male cow patty.

The rumor has been for years that Tommy Davis and Mike Rinder "blew" (left the cult without routing out) after the panorama incident in the UK. Mike Rinder stayed out but Tommy Davis was pulled back in. Maybe his mom Anne Archer was able to talk him into it.

Manure tech... seriously? What happened to the old days with Miss Bloody Butt and Snow White fair game from hell that could destroy your life?

Poo? That's all the evil CoS has left? Poo?

Miscavige... Miscavige... what have you done to LRH's CoS?

This is a bit unrelated, but this video is making the rounds.

After the press conference, a few people (not the speakers...although Will Fry went later) went to Gold Base near Hemet Ca. Scientology knew they would be there as it was announced a few weeks ago...so this was their plan to handle the visitors I guess.

That's what I was saying about poo tech...

Today's fair game has no subtlety, no flair. Just a big bulldozer full of crap that completely misses every intended target and makes everyone laugh and scoff.

LRH is rolling in his grave... or his meatbag is maybe... I don't know.

Here is a link to the videos (which will be old at some point and I will replace them with
a youtube or other link in the future)
http://au.todaytonight.yahoo.com/video#

It is a 20 minute segment in three parts. It features the crew scaring off the Scientology camera man trying to intimidate people who attended the press conference with ex-Scientologists held at CFI West, and bits of interviews with celebrity Scientologists, the exes from CFI West, and Tommy Davis himself.

Another segment will appear Tuesday night as well.

Enjoy
