I was out on a bike ride yesterday when I saw this sign, and I had to stop to take a photo:

Effective at what? And effectual compared to what?

James 5:16: the effective prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

The rest of you just keep tithing. We'll let you know when to stop.

Shouldn't the "all are welcome" inform you that they're a little loose with their definition of words?

Churches usually form when a group of like-minded folks decide they want to worship together. Sometimes they end up deciding to pool their money and hire someone trained and educated to lead them as a pastor.

Here, the pastor founded the church. If I were looking for a church, this would be a serious red flag.

I'm going to found a church.

The New Life Breath of Jesus Holy Light Salvation Calvary Ministries of Hope and Help Through Devoted Prayer Church of God in Christ of Heaven, Inc.

Holy Dr Reverend Brother Bishop T. Monkey, D.D., Ph.D., J.D., L.S.D, M.I.L.F., Founder, Senior Pastor, and Goa'uld System Lord.

Sister Cherri LaButt, Associate Pastor.

I have the church building to use but I was thinking of turning it in to a casino.

Ah well, one more minute to go on 'National Prayer day'.
3 2 1 0...

Nadda in the national news, but this is always a yearly event worth mentioning in the bustling commercial section of the mountains of Arizona.

The recent complaint was that the local fundy churches (they have loosely grouped themselves together as 'covenant' churches) were not allowing non Christians to pray, even though prominent city government people were in attendance. This eventually became what we sometimes call a political liability.

So this year they fixed that. There was a 'breakfast' prayer meeting for the Christian fundies, and an evening 'dessert' meeting for everyone else (Mormons, Bahai's, Muslims, Jews, Heathen Liberal Christians, etc).

We were encouraged by our local paper to go to both:

The National Day of Prayer was established as an annual event in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. The observance is founded on the constitutional rights of freedom of speech and religion, to be celebrated by all Americans.

Yeah that last part cracks me up.
