Supposedly, it's a video tape of two aliens ambling around the tundra (lucky they didn't run afoul of a Tundra Mammoth®). Of course, the guy couldn't stay around and tape a whole lot, because naturally The Higher Authorities showed up and began p*ss*ng all over his paranormal parade...

The bidding started at $50,000 -- -- anyone want to kick in to the Alien Videotape Fund, so we can ensconce this truly unique example of The End Of The World As We Know It in the video library at JREF HQ? I'll go first...[digs in pocket]...I got 87¢ and a Diet Soda Pop bottle cap...

You can actually sell such crap there? I didn't think it was possible.

Maybe I should dust off my box of immortality rings and set up shop...

What's really amazing is that there are at least 2 people stupid enough to pay for it. Yes, there are 2 bids!

Holy crap, I should find out who these bidders are so I can make some money too.

I sent E-bay messages to the 2 bidders to see what in the hell they are thinking.

Don't worry the top bidder is "beee-yatch," I doubt it is a real bidder.

I tried to contact beeyacht - ebay won't let me.
And yes, there are people out there who are foolish enough to buy such stuff.
"It is impossible to underestimate the average intelligence of the American people".
Lest you think I'm getting at you lot to the left of the Atlantic, it applies to the British population as well.

I don't remember my eBay login so I couldn't check the two bidders but with they don't look genuine to me. What's weird is that they'd had to have valid credit cards to place the bid. Anyone willing to transcribe their profile data here?

Why would they have to have a valid credit card to place the bid? The seller says he'll take cashier's checks. Besides, do you know anyone whose credit limit lets him charge fifty big ones?

I'm putting this auction on my eBay watch list, 'cuz I want to see what happens after the end of the auction, see if the buyer comes through with payment. Winning buyers sometimes don't pay up, as I learned all too well last year. You can get kicked off eBay for non-payment, but it still happens. I'll keep y'all posted how this turns out. I'm betting the seller cancels the auction before the end and claims that the police raided him and took his film.

As near as I can tell, the current top bidder is a legitimate person (although using a sock puppet or getting your buddies to artificially - and illegally - bid up your item is not unknown), and the seller also appears to be legitimate. Seller seems to like to buy a lot of high-end (Hasselblad, Nikon) camera accessories. That's good - I'm sick of seeing cruddy, grainy film of crashed aliens.

NOTE: Don't try to contact the bidders to ask them what they're thinking, are they out of their minds, what planet are they from, etc. I'm almost certain it could be considered harrassment under eBay's policies.

Yes it is. I know someone who claims all Americans are idiots. Clearly, he "underestimates the average intelligence of the American people". Popular mis-quotation of H.L. Menckens's line, "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public."

Because of this:

To place a bid of US $15,000.00 or more, you'll need to provide a valid credit card or complete the ID Verify process ($5).

It's eBay's rule, not the sellers. Hell, from what I see the seller could take piles of cow manure for payment, but in order to place a bid for over U.S.$15k they apparently have to be a known entity.

At one point on eBay, there were bids as high as 99 million dollars for Ghost in a Jar.

Hmm...yes, I do.

I carry one card with a limit like that all that time.

Too bad. I checked eBay this am and it looks like the thing got yanked.

The item you requested ( 3240500436 ) is invalid, still pending, or no longer in our database. Please check the number and try again. If this message persists, the item has either not started and is not yet available for viewing, or has expired and is no longer available.
Somehow, I didn't think a phony UFO/alien film was going to be sold sight-unseen for $50,000.
