Drinking and Hanging out...

I propose a night of sipping one's respective booze and hanging out and chatting for those of us who cannot stand bars and pubs (namely me). I would like to have a booze run (money can be worked out beforehand) and just sit around in a room and get to know your fellow posters and TAM attendees without spending inordinant ammounts in bars, where you can't hear conversation anyway.

I like the IDEA of a pub crawl, I hate the pubs you need to go to to do so. Just an idea. Lemme know what you think.

I'm in. If I tried a pub crawl, I'd be crawling an hour in without having had anything to drink. Not a fan of $6+ drinks either......and I'm not usually a cheap date to begin with.

But the question is when. I suggest later in the evening, maybe after 9 or after the Thursday show, so one can go out for dinner and a bit of strip experience, then come back "home" and spend a couple of hours going at it.

These are gonna be mighty long days at TAM4, I tell you!

I'm in too, but I can't host. Mrs. TJ usually goes to bed fairly early, but I won't be sleeping much. Too much to talk about, and I'm a talker.

Another problem with a pub crawl in Vegas is that it's a LONG walk between pubs, most are filled with the noise of the adjacent casino or a cover band that's really loud, and you end up yelling at one another to get a partial thought uttered. Not conducive to the intelligent conversation that is the main draw of TAM for me.

Traditionally, the male forum members have held a whiskey party to coincide with the girl's pajama party. We sit around sipping whiskey and chatting about whatever while the ladies are pajama-ing.

Mercutio was the originator with Exarch, Tricky, Athon, myself, and several others in attendance. It looks as though Mercutio will not be attending TAM this year, but I have assured him that we would continue the tradition in his absence.

All we need is a room. I don't yet know what my lodging arrangement will be, otherwise I'd volunteer my room. But finding one should not be a problem.

Count me in. I'm rather conservative on the social side, so a pub crawl really isn't my style. A nice chat over a glass wouldn't be bad, though.

Cool cool. I don't know about hosting either. I have to check with my travel partner/ roommate to see just how much he'd be up for or if he has other plans.

Just glad I'm not the only one who doesn't dig the bar scene. Expense + Noise + crappy bar bands playing Mustang Sally for the second time that night... *shiver*

anyone despise the idea of it being a smoking room? I always prefer some nicotine with my alcohol, but if need be, I can step out every once in a while...

Ummmmm, unfortunately, yeah. I think all the smoking going on in Vegas in general will be enough of a challenge, combined with sleep deprivation. Sorry!

Well, the boy and I are going to Red Square at Mandalay Bay, either Friday or Saturday; probably Saturday, actually. Anyone and everyone is welcome.

:)

I'm game. Strip Liquor (just a liquor store) is right across the street. No sales tax in Nevada -- gotta love that. And the prices are quite good from my experience.

Thanks, roomie. See? This guy is awesome and he knows Vegas more than all of us combined.

All you skepchicks, watch out for xenxabar. He knows Vegas. And what happens in Vegas...

...Will probably be reported by me as soon as I get home.

I have no plans for Thursday evening when I arrive (9:40pm). I'll join you all if you're doing anything then, though I'm not sure when exactly I will arrive at the hotel. Let me know.

Hey, this is just my style! I don't fancy having to compete with the band to communicate either. I'm sure we can find a quiet lounge somewhere in the Stardust to hang out in. A piano bar?

I'll volunteer to bring a few bottles of good Aussie red wine, if you like (well...you can argue with the "good" part after you drink a bit!).

Make it easy on yourself - eat the cigarettes instead of burning them. No tar, no smoke, and a full nicotine hit!

(Hey, I'm asthmatic, but I can step out for a breath every once in a while! ;))

I'll take you up on the wine.

Do they sell Guinness in Vegas?

Zep - Penfold's "Grange" will do nicely - certainly no complaints from my end. Oh - anything nice from the Margaret River in a Shiraz will do...

This sounds good to me too, since not only do I frequently work in bars, but I'm occasionally one of the guys miserably plodding through Mustang Sally for the second (at least) time. Although a piano bar would be fine, as long as it wasn't the one from TAM2 with that cheeseball playing along with pre-programmed backing tracks (including, yes, Mustang Sally...).

Also, I'll have my own room, so if we don't find a better locale AND I don't get a better offer involving a skepchick and jello wrestling, I can host. Only catch is, it's a non-smoking room and will remain so.

This sounds like it might be my speed. I don't know what I'll be doing at the time, but if one of you sees me (I look like my avatar) drag me wherever you're going.
