The 2nd application of 2006, from an Animal Clinic in Texas. Personally, I wouldn't trust him with my hamster.

Dear "Amazing Randi" and associates,

If you are truly interested in having your skepticism tested, then you will be interested in what I have to say. You state in your rules that you are not interested in religious or spiritual claims because they cannot be tested or proven. Yet the "Amazing R." challenges or mocks believers by saying:

"So they say OK 'God Exists'. I say, 'Prove it!'. 'Ahum, I'll call you back'.
'Hello? and we never hear back from THEM again."
- Fakers & Innocents, Skeptical Inquirer July/Aug '05

Well, this is THEM calling. I have an answer for you. If you're genuine in your skepticism and unbelief and yet are searching for the truth, you will want to hear this. Its a better argument than the one made by the intelligent design camp, though it clearly shows intelligent design. For it is an argument in which god proves Himself. My role in this is to merely demonstrate how HE does it and in such a way that CAN BE TESTED AND PROVEN. If you do not give me the opportunity, then I sincerely doubt your quest for truth. After all science claims to be searching for truth. Sir Richard Dawkin's, Darwin's Rottweiler, certainly believes science has the answers and religious "know-nothings" or "no contests" do not. (I particularly like Sir Richard because he leaves no room for compromise.)

So I challenge his assertion and yours by being able to clearly demonstrate that many major historical events of the past were not random events but were in effect scripted hundreds or thousands of years in advance. This script was recorded for all the world to see and describes the event in enough detail to be recognizable and predicts the exact year in which the event was to occur. By historical events I mean things such as large and well-known volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, etc.

For example, Krakatoa - 1883, San Francisco - 1906 (I can counter the assertions made by Mr. Simon Winchester that God was not involved.) But it's not limited to natural phenomenon. It can be man-made events such as Roe v. Wade in 1973 or the Scopes Monkey Trial of 1925 or even the writing and publishing of Origin Of Species in 1858-59. Importantly, though, I'm not saying every significant event of history is in some way detailed in the Bible. However numerous major events are. How many? I have no idea. Probably too many to count. At the very least, God's foreknowledge of these events can be easily demonstrated by using the NKJ version of the Bible and history. That's all that's needed. No computer, no computer program, no number-skip code. Just the word of God and factual, dated history. More than just god's foreknowledge, I believe this demonstrates the actual pattern that the events of the natural world operates on. In other words, I do not believe the Bible predicts the events of history, it in fact determines the events of history. I can clearly demonstrate this principle in an hour or so or I could spend the whole day going through example after example. I know this because the patter holds true throughout recorded history. It does not matter which century or even which millenia.

Can the fossil record show which year Darwin wrote Origin Of Species? Can the geologic record show the year and depict the event of the earthquake Darwin experienced while on the voyage of the Beagle? Does either record describe Darwin's "tree of life" sketch or indicate the year he drew it? Darwin seemingly proved there was no designer. I can show you how Darwin's very life was designed and recorded long before he was born. The record I have to show you has something about these events and many others. If you say "IMPOSSIBLE!" I say "Isn't that what this challenge is all about?"

Sincerely,

Dr. Alan Ward

Dear Dr. Ward,

Thank you for submitting a JREF ONE MILLION DOLLAR PARANORMAL CHALLENGE application.

Text interpretation is entirely subjective. The interpreter will invariably see what he/she wants to see. The JREF does NOT investigate such claims.

As such, your claim does NOT qualify for the JREF CHALLENGE, and is hereby REJECTED. Your beliefs do not interest us. Pointing out sections of Bible text which you believe proves your claim, in actual fact proves nothing whatsoever, and cannot suffice as an acceptable demonstration of paranormal phenomenon.

Should this not prove to be the response you had hoped for, please refer to our website (www.randi.org) for further clarification of the JREF prize rules.

If you wish to debate matters further, you may do so by emailing me at the address below. Please be advised, however, that we will not reverse this decision. We do not accept claims involving text interpretation.

From the Good Doctor

Upon my arrival at 8am this morning, I found this missive dangling like a tongue from the mouth of the fax machine.

Dear Mr. Kramer,

It looks like we found out who the real fake is. It's the Amazing R himself. He brags he silences believers but then he (or you) will not let believers respond. Funny how that works.

But it is your game.

Sincerely,

Dr. Alan Ward

Dear Dr. Ward,

The JREF does not accept claims involving text interpretation. Even if there were in fact a manner in which I could make that clearer to you, I fear it would have no improved effect.

Indeed, it is our game, and there are rules. You are not the first applicant to childishly complain when the JREF declines to alter them. Nor are you the first disgruntled applicant to slander Randi after the fact. Of that you can be sure.

If the timbre of your initial claim letter (and subsequent fax) were not pocked with such zealous hatred and Bible-fueled belligerence toward Randi, we may have considered offering you some ideas on what kind of claim we might consider (perhaps involving your alleged ability to directly connect a clear and concise section of text to some forthcoming event, in which the text was not "interpreted" to only appear to match the actual event).

However, your foul attitude is quite familiar to us, as is your obvious disdain for those who do not share your belief in what a book of ancient text reveals, as interpreted by you personally, coincidentally matching your agenda precisely. Or is it a coincidence at all? One wonders.

You have no evidence except that which you yourself have invented to support your religious convictions. That is the psychological basis of text intepretation. We have no interest in such self-delusions. Our interest lies solely in the examination of actual phenomenon, and not in the examination of the minds of the devoted. That is the work of others.

You will receive no further communication from us. Your file has been closed.

In Randi's own words...

"Text interpretation is pattern-finding. Pattern-finding is a game. We have no interest in games."
