Dowsing on the BBC

And they treat the use of metal detectors and dowsing as essentially the same thing!

Yes.... this gives me an idea. I am about to submit an applications for the $1 million dollar challenge.

I plan to dowse for metal (pretty much any kind).

My dowsing rod

So the guy using the metal detector has found all sorts of interesting historical artificacts including £265,000 worth of Roman coins, enabling him to buy a house and change his life and the dowsers claim to be able to find water.

Chalk one up for science.

A bit safer than my aproach (a combination of a micorwave tranmitter and an infra red dector hidden inside one of those high tech looking dowsing rods).

Yeah I was laughing at that too.:)

Actually, I'm not sure if that's quite all the dowsers are claiming; they also do an impressive line in gobbledegook:
Christopher and Veronika Strong, who have been dowsing for 25 years, demonstrate how they can dowse both a person's energy field and their house for negative influences.

They dowse a subterranean water source under the house which could drain energy from the inhabitants.

But the Strongs say they have brought dowsing into the 21st century and can synchronize the house by changing the electromagnetic energy to a harmonious frequency with an electrified crystal.
Still, as you say, chalk one up for science:
Richard however says he and his house haven't felt any different.
